Anejo #50 Review

Bought this one last year Dec 05 - (Every Dec. I stock up on them and smoke em a year later)

Smoked this one on my deck this evening with a sweet cup of coffee. Nice pre-light smell. Similar to an opus, but not quite as pungent. Near perfect construction with a PERFECT draw. First few minutes were real powerful (which I love). Eventually mellowed a bit into a nice med-full smoke. I've always found the flavors of these cigars are some of the hardest to describe. As I smoked it i tried to think of what I was tasting and the best I could come up with is "spiced holiday bread". It also had a slight burnt raisin/woody spice that was really nice. It also stayed good all the way to the nub - Im guessing the year of aging helped with that. In all I was really impressed with this smoke. I think it might actually be my fav of the line (even over the shark!). even though its VERY hard to do, I would highly recommend sitting on these for a year like I do. There is a VERY noticiable difference in the flavor. Plus, its kind of a neat tradition and gives me something extra to look forward to around the holidays.

Re: Anejo #50

i'm pretty sure the #50 is my favorite of the anejos. then again, robusto is probalby my favorite size, so it makes sense. i decided this several years ago, and horded several boxes of the #50 at that time. still sitting on a couple in the cellophane!

Re: Anejo #50

Nice review and excellent advise!

No doubt the #50 as well as all of the Anejo Line will benefit, a whole lot, with a year or two of age. They may even become outstanding, after five-plus years!

I hope I can wait that long. I just love Anejo. I have a hard time keeping my hands off the ones I got last year. Hopefully, I will be able to restock this anejo season.

I love these. I have a box of Sharks from 2003 and a box of 50s that I got earlier this year. With little age I am enjoying the 50's as much as any cigar I have ever purchased.

Re: Anejo #50

I just stumbled across the Anejo Sharks at my local shop and was able to buy a few. Its going to kill me but I guess they need to age. Anybody got a minimum time for aging.

I emgine that you'll get varying opinions on this, but I'd age them for a minimum of 6 months, and the longer the better. A year or two would be far better! They are loaded with high-end, premium, strong tobaccos and it takes time for them to smooth-out a bit. Most people, because of their rarity, smoke the Anejos way too young. Sure they're good but the true potential of those sticks is being overlooked, and in truth wasted, when smoked young!

I have some 50's with about a year on them (I am pretty sure they are from last years release) and they are smoking very very good right now. If you were able to get a few, try one in 3-6 months and another after about a year. That way you will know for the future.
