Flor De Oliva Torpedo Review

It was a warm February night in Pittsburgh. I was about 4 hours into my friday night shift at work and all was quiet. Was it time. Time for a long smoke outside. I looked left and right there was no one here any longer. I stealthfully darted out the back door and snipped the head off of a wonderfully well made torpedo the wrapper was a little veiny but wonderfully made. The Cigar was firm yet it's unlit draw was smooth with note of wood and nuts.

Now it was time. I was anticipating this all day, a new cigar. I sparked my Colibri and held it just below the foot of the Oliva Torpedo. I began turning the Cigar and it lighted ever so easily. I drew in the first puff and got a little bit of an acidy taste. I thought oh no!!!!! then I waited a minute and took another puff. It was mild yet flavorful. I tasted a hint of wood and an earthy espresso flavor. It was consistent to about the 2/3rd mark when the flavor changed ever so slightly getting slightly sweet and cedary. With about only a 1/4th left it became a little hot and started to get a little harsh. I altered my draw and it settled down but not for long. I finished this cigar and was incredably please with the experience and hour later. It is a cigar that I truely enjoyed.

This experience truely surprised me because I got this cigar at my local shop for $1.75 per stick. What a value.

The Cigar was a Flor De Oliva Torpedo. It was a 6.5 x 54 torpedo with a nice taper and well made cap and a slightly oily wrapper.

Sorry if I offended

Hey guys sorry if I offended anyone with the way that I wrote the review. I thought a little narrative would bring out the true experience of the smoke. Please let me know if you liked the review or if not. I llok foward to hearing your criticism.

looks good to me. Thats the nice thing about CS...people wont give you too much crap no matter what you write.

Personally, I think your way of describing it is very important. The conditions and moods we are in when we smoke a cigar have a profound effect on the experience. For example...Im enjoying an Anejo shark after we (Pitt) spanked UB (University at Buffalo) in double overtime (take that mcgoospot!!!).

Enough CS for now...time to really celebrate!

Still the only non-habano I smoke. Two a day. Make sure you purge them a couple of times and they stay cool and creamy all the way to the nub. Cut the cap as deep as you can.

Said this about them last October:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of Americas top selling bundles! Flor de Oliva is made with 100% All Long Nicaraguan Filler. An Indonesian Sumatra wrapper finishes this favorite. Flor de Oliva is our family's way of earning your confidence. All sizes individually cellophaned and packaged in bundles of 25 cigars.
-------------------------------------------------------
This is the only non-ISOM I still smoke. Two bundles a month for many years. Starts of with a sweet taste and builds to a spicy finish. Lots of creamy smoke. Very good appearance and construction with an even burn and no soft spots. As good as any under $6.00 cigar [non-isom] out there. Always enjoy them with morning coffee and afternoon coke. 67-68 RH works for me. I buy mine from abc cigars.com.

"Original" not "Gold Line"

Great review kamikaiguy! Too good as a matter of fact! Now I must deplete more of my funds and buy a bundle. That is the how I judge a good review, I read it, then I search the net, I find them, then I buy them. It's all your fault! rns

PS I hope they were the Naturals....that's what I'm getting. Torpedos.

My Torpedoes came yesterday, FdO Naturals. I took them to work and put them in my work tupperdor.....looked at them for about an hour, then my co-workers started to get that sad puppy look wondering what I was going to do with them.

We each torched one up, even though they just arrived a few hours earlier from NYC....you guys are right! If they smoke that well and taste this rich with one hours of arrival, FdOs are a very fine cigar indeed. One of the guys is a MCW (mild cigar weenie) and got a bit woozy after mid-point, which is a good indicator that this is a well rounded smoke. The other fellow and myself kept saying the same thing, this is a damn fine cigar! The one thing we both noted, that even this early in the hopper, the Nicaraguan filler and Sumatra wrapper's two distinct flavors really bounced off each other very well, which bodes well in a few months when they simmer down a bit. Thanks, I'll write a shorter more accurate review around June or July. rns

PS only $26 for 25! Aaaaaaar!

Glad to hear the first one got your attention Dave. When they are on their flavor profile is kind of woodsy and nutty with some sweetness and spice. Did you get my e-mail??

Yep, got it. Thanks, I'll put half and half away then revisit them in April. My fellow co-worker pulled the trigger yesterday and bought a bundle, been weening him slowly away from Thompsons seconds............the FdO's will probably become a standard down at the salt mine.

RNS glad you liked them

Hey RNS

I am glad you liked them. I often wondered how they could be so good and yet so inexpensive?

No fancy bands, no fancy box, no fancy ads in CA equals realativly inexspensive cigars that are actually pretty damn tastey.

Re: RNS glad you liked them

I enjoy all of the FdOs but really like the Diademas. Trouble is I can't seem to find them anymore.... has anyone seem them around lately. The last I bought were last summer and they are all gone...
