Partagas Black label Piramide Review

Being most comfortable smoking a cigar in the mid to upper 40’s (ring gauge) I smoke Lonsdales for the most part, and forget how much I like a pyramid shaped cigar. Large enough ring gauge at the foot to burn cool and a modest ring gauge at the head.

These beautiful cigars have a rich, earthy, tobacco scent. It’s what a cigar should smell like, it you ask me.

The wrappers, a deep, dark, nearly black, shade of brown, are very uniform in color, with an oily sheen and a toothy texture, a very nice feeling cigar. Very little variation color among those that came in this box.

The pre-light draw is on the firm side for a pyramid shaped cigar (though not tight or restrictive), with a strong tobacco taste. The wrapper is semi-sweet with a touch of spice.

The first draw after toasting the foot, is full flavored, leathery and almost chewy, hinting of cedar.

The flavor builds slowly, developing pepper and a tannic quality like that of a dry good cabernet. Not bitter or biting, but drying on the tongue and palate. Leather and cedar gain in depth and the pepper gets a little stronger about half way through the cigar.

While this cigar doesn’t gaining much in complexity, the depth and intensity of flavor i.e. pepper, leather and cedar, continue to build throughout the smoke.

Pepper taunts through a long leathery finish with hints of cedar. In the end, pepper wins out and is the last trace of flavor left behind by this cigar.

The aroma is dark, earthy and full, reminiscent of rich cultivated soil and compost.

The burn can be sporadic, yet, even enough for the most part it doesn’t need to be touched up.

The ash varies in color from light to medium-dark gray, spotted with black, dense with little to no flaking, and 2 inches long when I knocked it off.

The smoke started getting hot when there wasn’t much more then a couple inches left of the cigar.

Re: Partagas Black label Piramide

Seconded. The last one I smoked had such a strong sensation on my lips that I was reminded of the lemon & salt finger trick when drinking tequila. Mine had a perfect burn (difficult to achieve in that vitola) with a big lump of ash that looked like a blob of putty. I kept wishing I had some Highland Park or a really flinty Muscadet to hand. When it was all over I sat in my chair like someone who had experienced the radiance. I can't remember when I experienced such pleasure. On second thoughts, yes I can [grin] and I want to go back again to both at the first opportunity.

Thanks for the review, I find these to be very good smokes and usually try to get to one every other month or two. It certainly is a strong one and very enjoyable as you stated.

Re: Partagas Black label Piramide

I have had a couple of these in the pyramid style and they are very good. I have a couple more resting in the humi right now and I want one right now, but the snow coming down outside is telling me that's not a good idea. great review
