Camacho Habano Nacionales Review
5 ˝ x 44 - Corona
These box pressed Honduran Puros have a smooth oily Criollo wrappers, the color is uniform from head to foot, and from cigar to cigar across the box. The texture is smooth and even only the smallest of veins. Construction is very consistent, firm, not hard or soft and even from head to foot, nearly flawless. The scent is of rich tobacco, with a hint of spice and an earthy note. Overall the look and feel of these cigars is very nice and inviting. Pre-light the flavor is smooth with a hint of pepper, the draw is firm. The first draw is smooth with a texture that’s almost creamy, well balanced and a generous volume of smoke for a cigar this size. The body and flavor are not, as full as expected. A great tobacco aroma rich with notes of spice and… vanilla? The flavor remains the same… Other then a hint of pepper, the first third of this smoke was bland, and near monotonous. Into the second third of the cigar, it starts to develop some depth, the flavor gets bolder and the body fills out somewhat. Pepper becomes dominant in the flavor profile. I’ve smoked two of these now. One the day I got them about a week ago, the other this morning and the burn makes me nuts. Not just uneven, long runs down one side that begin shortly after touching it up. I touched this one up twice before letting it go, once the run was an inch long I touched it up again. It burned evenly through the last third of the cigar. In the last third they really develop, becoming a medium-full bodied and flavored cigar. Pepper starts to linger on the tongue and palate, hinting of the longish finish to come. The last inch and a half is the best (other then really getting hot on the fingers), strong pepper on the lips, tongue and palate, that last a good long while after putting the cigar to rest in an ashtray. The ash is dark gray, firm and compact, and over an inch in length each time before I knocked it off. Overall, these are decent cigars. They build slow and steady into a good medium to full flavored smoke with body to match (just fast enough to keep me from getting to bored), not an overly complex, but interesting. At $50.00 - box (20)/ $2.50 a stick, you could do a lot worse. I got these a week ago. Smoked one the day I got them with a glass of 2000 Taylor Fladgate late bottled vintage port, and one this morning with a couple cups of espresso. They went well with both port and coffee and they’ve both had the same burn issues. Appearance; 9 Construction; 10 Consistency; 10 (so far) Flavor; 7 Burn; 5 Value; 10 Dmntd
