Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story Review

It was another cold night in Pittsburgh. I was looking for a small cigar once again. I stumbled over the Short Story. Now I have had several of these in the past but something made this on extra special. I know it was the fact that I got an $800.00 check from my X-wife for overpaying alimony.

I picked up the Short Story and slowly rolled it between my fore finger and thumb in an attempt to pick up even a small irregularity in the construction but alas I could not. This was a well made cigar. I picked my new Xikar double guilotine cutter for this one and snipped of just enough of the end. Initial unlit draw on this guy is a little tight, but the figurado shape of the short story doesn't lend itself to a great unlit draw. I pondered lighting this cigar, I wanted to remember this moment. This moment was a victory for all men. I actually got a woman to return money to a man. I felt larger than life right now. My alimony payments were over and I had an extra $800.00 a month for cigars. Life is good.

It was time, I lit the Short Story and it was as though Hemingway himself was reading to me a lovely novell. A novell about the soft woody and citrusy sweet flavor of this cigar. A novell that started out with a mild body that slowly developed into an action adventure book that was talking about an espresso with a twist of lime and then all of a sudden it took on a slight pepper finish then nothing. This cigar was finished. Just like the last chapter of my life it came and went Just like a great Hemingway novell. It was short and sweet but Ohhhh! What a ride.

Great review, Dwayne. Hey, hope you won't mind a personal question. Your signature line, "Cigars are Like Women, Variety is the spice of life" - does that have anything to do with the fact that your ex is, well, your ex? Just bustin' your chops, no offense intended.

Unfortunatly not

Hey drc,

I figured that saying out after the wife left. Actually the wife leaving lead to the statement. I became good at getting sympathy for being hurt by the evil uncareing woman that riped out my heart.

Love the short stories... great smokes - can't say I agree with your sig line though. I'd have to say "cigars are like women, they are what makes life spicy" hehe!

Nice review. The short story is one of my favs.

how did yours burn? I wonder if it's me or if they all burn slightly uneven. I love the ash on these babies...2" it was longer than the butt!

Mostly uneven

Hey Churchlady

I was wondering the same thing. Mine always burn uneven. It seams that evey Figurado burns that way. I have Oliva Grand Camaroon Figurado does the same thing. I think it is how the little nub is wrapped where ever the end of the wrappers burns faster to start then it just keeps going.

Re: Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story

Who cares if they burn uneven, the Short Storys are simply amazing smokes. My only problem with them is they are just that, a short but amazing story that makes you sad when they are done, but happy to have smoked em.

Hmmm!

They may get slightly uneven at some point. However, they always straighten out in the home stretch for me. I really like those Short Stories.

Re: Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story

Uneven burn? HaHa! I usually have bad lighting technique and start with an uneven burn, but this cigar burned straight down for me. Maybe my poor lighting worked for me on this one.

I quite enjoyed the Short Story, given to me by DonJefe, and was surprised that at the length of the cigar I was expecting it to smoke a bit hot. A couple of these will have to find their way into my humidor. Good cigar and great for limited smoking time.

Re: Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story

Thanks for that review! I have been wanting to expand my Fuente experience beyond the Maduro Conones and the Curly head.. I really like the Conones and have heard a lot of good stuff about the Hemmingway but haven't brought myself to buying one yet. I may just get myself one today rather than an excalibur like I originally planned. How long does the short story last? I am wanting to try a smoke that will last me at least an hour so I can sit and chill in their smoking lounge for awhile today.

Thumbs up Re: Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story

Upon a recommendation by Foz, (who am I to disobey a U.S. Marine) I went out this past Saturday and bought a Fuente Hemingway Short Story.

What a great smoke! This little guy packs a nice punch of flavors, beginning mild and a slightly uneven burn - but fear not... This bad boy readjusted after a bit and begun to burn nice and even, with bits of sweetness, then deep nutty flavors, to coffee, and finishing with a nice peppery kick.

I also think this is a great golf cigar for a couple of reasons:
1. The size - doesn't interfere with anything!
2. It is a fairily complex stick, yet I wouldn't feel guilty concentrating on my game while enjoying this stick.

Here in the People's Republic of California cigars can get pricey. I bought this stick for $7.00 but I may take a recommendation I saw on another thread to just buy a box of 25 for $100.

This was a good stick!

Re: Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Short Story

They cost $5 - $6 here in MO. They seemed rather small but very nicely constructed. It seemed to me that the larger hemmingway would be totally worth the extra few dollars. I wonder if there is a significant difference in the taste/quality between the two?...
