H.D. Monterrey, Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight Review

This 5 ¾ x 54 cigar has a dark natural wrapper, evenly colored with a slight sheen and is finely toothed. In areas where more oil has built up the wrapper is smoother and the few noticeable veins there are, are very fine.

It’s firm and consistent from head to foot, giving slightly to pressure applied with fingers and thumb. Overall this cigar appears very well constructed and has a nice look and feel.

A dark earthy tobacco scent with a good measure of chocolate .

Firm smooth even draw, with a deep tobacco flavor pre-light.

A well balanced, medium to full flavored and richly bodied cigar, with chocolate and espresso dominating the flavor, mild at first then building throughout the smoke. A hint of spice mingled into the flavor about half way, by the end the chocolate and espresso had become rich and intense, coating the tongue and palate.

The burn was cool and even with a thin to moderate volume of smoke through the first ½ of the smoke, from there it became more generous.

Overall an enjoyable smoke.

Thanks for the great review. I've been eyeing these up for the last week or so. I may have to order a couple after reading your review.

What great timing for this review to be written...

I just picked up a couple of these sticks along with a couple of Dark Sumatras for some sleepy time in my humidor...

Thanks for the good review Demented...

Take care,

Nestor

Check out the Dark Sumatra sampler at JRs. 8 sticks for 25 bucks or something like that.

Now that I am done hijacking this review...

You are right on spot with my feelings about the 1066 DK. Nice dark, earth cigar with mixed notes of chocolate and expresso. They are a good treat. I don't go to them too often, but when I pull one up, it is always a treat. Good review!

Re: H.D. Monterrey, Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight

So on the basis of Demented's review, I bought one of these a few days ago, and just burned it up. Your review was right on, I got nearly all the same impressions and think I'm gonna spring for a box of these in the not-too-distant future. Such a rich smoke--it was a fat, flavorful, juicy smoke. Just like the big girls back in high school

I love how CS introduces me to so many great folks and their helpful reviews.

Re: H.D. Monterrey, Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight

Demented, that was a sweet review! I've not had a Dark Knight before, but I definitely need to get one now. Been a fan of the Dark Sumatras since I heard the guys on Blowin' Smoke extolling their virtues. Will have to get a Knight to compare. Looking forward to it now!
