Arturo Fuente Anejo #48 [Pics] Review

Well it is the season of the Anejo craze for sure. There is so much buzz around these cigars that it almost lends itself towards disappointment. I have had a couple of Anejos in the past, and they have always been great. I had one left on hand and last night I decided that life is too short to delay.

This particular Anejo was the #48 which is a 7x48 Grand Corona. I typically don't smoke cigars of this length, mostly robustos. I will have to say however that the size of this cigar did feel great. For me 7 inches is long, but it was intimidating, and I am glad that the rg stayed under 50.

This Anejo has been aged for about 2 years, and is the most aged Anejo I have ever had. The others that I have had were relatively fresh (3-4 months age).

GETTING STARTED: The first 1" to 1.5" was very smooth, but really lacked the flavor that I was looking for. The subtle flavors were rich, but they just weren't too prominent. The burn was good, and the volume of smoke was good as well. If the whole stick smoke like this section, I wouldn't be too impressed. It really left me wanting something more. Good thing there was another 6" to go!

TAKING A TURN: After the first section, the flavors really took a turn and all of a sudden BOOM, they were in your face. I was really taken by the quick change in the cigar. It was still very smooth, but there was a ton of rich flavors with just a perfect hint of sweetness. The flavors were very complex, and I can't really pinpoint them, but it was very rich, with a mix of fruit undertones. (And not some Strawberry, Green Apple, Grape Philly Blunt fruit flavor either!) I was definitely picking up a mix that included some coconut flavors as well. These flavors remained until about .5" before the band.

FINISHING UP: Nearing the end, the cigar picked up bit of spice that blended well with the rich body of this cigar. The finish wasn't quite as overpowering as I was expecting, but that wasn't a bad thing. This cigar never got harsh, and always stayed smooth and rich right down past the band to the nub. A real delight. I didn't really clock it, but I would say this was a good our and a half smoke.

I am not one to jump on the hype of cigars, but this is definitely a GREAT smoke. It doesn't really lend itself well to comparison to the "other" Fuente (opus x), but to give it a shot; the Anejo is a bit sweeter, has less spice, is still complex, and won't hit you as hard.

If you were able to pick up any Anejos this holiday season, be glad!

Since I haven't got mine yet, I'm not happy to see you spreading the Anejo hype

I've been looking for a place to use the machine gun!

If I mix a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg into some fruit salad will I get that same flavor???
Seriously, I've got some Anejos aging, but they'r only a few months old. From what you have said, waiting until next Christmas will pay off... Larry.

Thanks for the review! Makes me look forward to the few I will have after I send those that split the box their take.

Also makes me with I had bought the other two boxes to split...

Nah, I was close enough to sleeping on the couch last night with the first box, even with splitting it. I don't need them. At least I don't think I do.

The Anejo is a all time favorite of mine, thats a cigar that has never let me down.Always a smooth full bodied good time...I'm told they have the exact same filler as the OpusX...food for thought anyway and great review!

That's a rumor that moki categorically denies, I would say he knows as much as (read: more than) anyone except the manufacturer.
