Royal Jamaica Gold Review

Royal Jamaica Gold
Picked this up a couple of months ago at the weekly B&M Herf, last night I finally decided to pull it out of humidor and give it a try. This particular stick was the churchill and measured in at 7 X 54 and came wrapped in nice gold wrapper with a yellow foot band.

Out of the package the cigar had a bit of sweet and smooth smell to it, the wrapper was a nice medium brown color and was soft to the touch. Clipped it and the prelight draw had that same sweetness to it that I initially got when I took the stick out of the cello, it wasn't like a sweet flavored cigar but there was a little sweetness to it.

I toasted the foot and it lit up pretty quickly and started burning nice right away. The first couple of draws were just very bland and one dimensional, it left me wanting something more. I thought maybe it's just the start, it has to get better the more it burns down... Boy was I wrong, the stick never changed at all. I smoked it down to just a little before the band hoping it would get better or even just change a little but nothing, just the same boring bland taste that it started with.

Overall this stick to me was very boring and just left me wanting something more, it’s probably not something that I would pick up again.

Wow was nice to get that first review out of the way, wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

Adam

Nice review.

I prefer mild smokes and have noticed that what some consider bland, I like just fne. Based upon what you're saying may just give these a try.

Re: Royal Jamaica Gold

Good review. My only impressions of the RJG were a guy walking into the B&M and going, "Wow! RJG, I haven't seen those in a while. I love these things!" He then proceeded to pick up three whole boxes and check out. You think it would have made me want to try them, but I never have. I usually go for stronger cigars, so your comments from the review are good to know!

Re: Royal Jamaica Gold

Great first review. I agree this is a very mild stick to me. Looks pretty though.

Re: Royal Jamaica Gold

I have a couple different Jamaican stogies and found the same thing. Way too mild for me, no complexity , and no flavour development. I give them a pass these days.

Re: Royal Jamaica Gold

Thanks for the review.

I've had these in a smaller RG and found them more in the medium body area with a low strength. Sweet, some what rich, and enjoyable. The 54 RG vitola might just have a more diffuse flavor.

Re: Royal Jamaica Gold

I would agree with the others... This is NOT a strong cigar. HOWEVER, it seems to have a certain mild "tang" in the flavor that appeals to new smokers.

I LIKE them! They're a nice "step down" from the heavier-bodied stuff that's "just right," depending upon the time, the occasion, and the libation.

(My opinion, of course, is subjective, and may be accurately construed as pure bull-pucky)

Re: Royal Jamaica Gold

It's an interesting smoke...has a sort of "tangy" aftertaste. I couldnt smoke them all the time, but they are a good change of pace.
