Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Connecticut Perfecto /pics Review

All right, I know I havent posted a review in a while, so I will post at least 3 reviews this week of new and unique stogies. I have some time off, and I can't wait to smoke at least once per day, if not more!

The first candidate for review is the relatively new Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Conecticut Perfecto figuardo - a diminutive cigar similar (although not exact) in size and shape to the AF Hemingway Short Story. Supposedly, the RP 1999 is rolled with tobacco from the crop of 1999 combined with a Dominican and Nicaraguan long filler, Nicaraguan binder, and Conecticut (US) wrapper. The filler has some ligero content. I paid 4.90 for this stogie at a local B&M.

The cigar itself is a pleasure to behold (as are most perfectos), with a light tan wrapper, double band, and silky smooth texture. The cigar smelled sweet and light, with a tobacco and leather overtone. I was really looking forward to this smoke, as I had around 40 minutes of uninterrupted smoking time, and I figured this would fit the bill.

To say this cigar smoked well is an understatement, it smoked like a dream with a nice, easy draw and perfectly even burn throughout the smoke - an overachievement for a perfecto. Initial tastes after a gentle toast of the tip were woodsy and leathery with an undertone of fresh-brewed coffee. The taste profile was complex, but it was also mild. The first 1/3 was almost a little too mild, but the cigar really opened up after cresting the largest part of the cigar. Tangy and nutty flavors came through with a slightly bitter backdrop to the already complex flavor profile. The finish on this one was a little harsh, some bitterness crept in for the last 1/3 that was partially rectified by purging.

I thought this was a great cigar, one of the better Patel series that I have tried. It starts out mild and builds to medium, and some of the flavors reminded me of a mild Davidoff series, but much less expensive. I will caveat this by stating that if you are a full-bodied smoker, go with the RP Sun Grown series. For a nice anytime cigar, this one really works well.

Thanks for the review... I decided that I want a box of short perfectos in the humi for short smoke times. I cant decide on the AF SS, or either of the RP Vintage 1990, '92 or '99..... hhuummmmm.. decisions, decisions. Leaning towards the '92 RP

Thanks for the review, I've been sitting on one of these for a few months now. I was very excited when I first boguht the perfecto RP but it seems lately I've been reaching for other things.

Nice review. I love the regular Rocky Patel Connecticuts. I'll have to give this one a try.

I absolutely LOVE these cigars!

I've tried only the toro size and I think that these are probably one of the best RP cigars to date. (If you can appreciate mild & complex cigars)

Just my worth.
