Carlos Torano Exodus 1958 Silver Robusto Corto Review

Date Tested: 12/31/06

Storage: Cooler, 69 Deg F. / 71% RH

ConditionsTested: 39 Deg. F / 51% RH

This cigar is not the regular Exodus 1958, but the Silver Edition which uses a different blend. This Robusto measures 4-7/8 X 52 and uses a Honduran wrapper surrounding a binder from Costa Rica. The filler is a blend of tobacco from Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua. The cigar is made in Honduras.

I picked up this cigar as part of a close out sampler at a local Tobacco Hut. I did not have very high expectations for it since often these cigars have been stored under questionable conditions and are not a good example of what can really be expected. To be safe, I kept this cigar in my coolerdor for several weeks before trying it.

The wrapper for this cigar was strangely colored, almost looking camouflaged due to the differing colors. This gave the wrapper a rather interesting look. The cap was well made and cut cleanly using scissors. Fill smoke and burn were excellent, and the cigar yielded good firm ash.
The most memorable thing about this cigar was the taste. This cigar obviously had some age on it when I got it since the flavor was very smooth with almost no harshness. In spite of this, the flavor was full and very interesting. I attribute the different flavor to the use of Costa Rican tobacco. I have not tasted anything quite like this in the past, and this was a pleasant surprise.

Scoring was as follows:

Wrapper – 9.0
Cap – 9.0
Fill – 9.5
Smoke – 10.0
Burn – 9.5
Ash – 9.5
Harshness – 9.5
Flavor Quality – 9.5
Flavor Intensity – 9.0
Satisfaction – 9.5

Total Points – 94.0

Grade – A

Overall, I was very impressed with this cigar. I believe that you get a lot of value for the $4.50 that this cigar was marked. I rate this cigar as Highly Recommended.
