Gurkha Expedition Review
In my quest to broaden my knowledge of cigars I am trying to smoke a review a cigar nightly that were so generously bestowed upon me by my NST, NPIF, contest win from Malik, and bomb from JPH.
Tonights choice was the Gurkha expedition. This cigar lit nicely. The draw was a little tight but the burn was nice and even all the way to the nub with a nice white ash. It began with a mild chocolate/cofee flavor in the 1st third which was very enjoyable. Unfortunatley I was a little dissapointed with the last two thirds as the flavor was very mellow and light. Don't get me wrong this was still a great cigar but the 1st third was very delicious and far out did the last two thirds. Maybe it is just that I am new to cigars but the Arturo Fuente Breva Royal and the Arturo Fuente Chateau are definately above this one on my purchase again list. |

Re: Gurkha Expedition
Nice review. I just read my notes on this one, and they say, "Not horrible. Better than the Regent, anyway". So apparently I wasn't blown away either.
I smoked an Ancient Warrior last night, and so far that's the only Gurkha I would bother buying again.

Re: Gurkha Expedition
Nice review! Have not had this one yet, but I love the Regents and Legends.

Re: Gurkha Expedition
Thanks for the review.
I looked at my notes on the Expedition a few moons ago. I found these cigars need to paired with the right refreshments: These cigars have a pale brown wrapper, with very few veins, and come wrapped in a cedar sleeve. Very mild. Curiously, they do not inherit the cedar-y/nutty/grassy tastes and aromas like other cedar-wrapped sticks. Instead, they are characterized mostly by a bitter--almost acrid--taste. I've tasted that same bitterness in another cigar, long ago, but I can't remember which one. This cigar goes very well with a glass of sangiovese du romana, while reading Sherlock Holmes stories on a warm summer evening. Unfortunately, on another night, it did not go as well with pinot noir and Sophocles. |

Re: Gurkha Expedition
Good review, Slow Burn. Personally, I've been a little underwhelmed by the few Gurkhas I've had...
