Gran Habanos # 5 Robusto Review

Gran Habanos # 5 Robusto 6/54
Country of Origin: Honduras
Flavor: Full
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Ecuadorian
Filler: Nicaraguan

First of all let me preface this by a saying a big "Thank You" to SeanGAR who was incredibly generous to send me out 5 of these to check out! What a great guy. Thanks again, I'll be getting some and will catch you on the rebound.

This cigar Kicks Ass. It is a huge dark robusto pack firmly and feeling moist. I'm not even being fair by smoking it so soon, It just came out of my mailbox yesterday. But it does warrant all the hype. Strong is the key, JdN Antano 1970 strong. The profile is completely different though, it is more complex and also has an earthy meaty background. You have to double clutch each puff, but on the second draw, clouds of smoke fill your mouth. Hard to describe, kind of like a young cuban...really. I do not know if they'll age. I am going to find out.

I'll be buying a couple of boxes, I want to let some set for a year. It burned fine and the construction is top notch. This is hands down the "Purge King" of all cigars I've ever smoked. The 1st purge was like a damn Roman Candle! It lasted well over 10 seconds and shot out wide and at times over 6"s. The same with the other 2 purges. Quite a sight, my fellow wrenches at work were amazed.

Haven't had this much fun smoking a cigar in quite awhile, it's a wild one! Of course I had right after breakfast at 0830 this morn, I was light headed for an hour. Little beads of sweat, the whole 9 yards. Full, strong, smooth!

Nice review Dave! Caught my attention. Sounds like one I need to try.

I was looking them up at: http://www.atlanticcigar.com/granhabano.html
http://www.phatash.com/catalog.cfm?d...linkon=section
Good prices and good descriptions of the three different types.

Phatash has a sampler pack available of each one. Think I'll get a SP of the #3 and #5 to try out.

Atlantic also has a Rothchild avaiable in the #5.

I've been looking for a good ass-kicking short smoke. I'll give them to the others in my foursome, double the bets and win enough to pay for the box!

I'm glad you like them Dave, they are a great smoke. I'm amazed at the price-performace ratio from those guys.

When I tried my first one I was playing pool and I yelled out what people thought was "boob". They looked at me funny, there I was admiring the last inch of the cigar and nary a boob in sight. Course, what I really yelled was "BBuB" (box buy you bet).

Those smokes you sent look just great. I'm definately looking forward to trying the rest (the JdN is a real winner for a short smoke - BOOB!!)

kelly, why don't you just buy the factory & send us all a couple of boxes.

I'm sorry. Just kiddin' ya.

On second thought, why don't you just buy Honduras & give us each a cigar factory.
