Helix X550 (my first review)

I decided I'd go for it and write my first review. Here goes nothing.

I can't say this was a bad smoke. Bad would indicate that I had a negative reaction while smoking this cigar, when actually I had pretty much no reaction at all. No taste really to speak of and the smoke was very mild. I prefer a milder smoke, but this one was weak even to me.

The construction was good and draw was very nice. This Helix would be good I think for a first timer, otherwise you might want to move on to something else.

Re: Helix X550 (my first review)

Nice review! I agree the helix is actually marketed to be a beginner/ladies type cigar...I enjoyed an x550 as one of my first cigars ever. I QUICKLY grew away from it after I discovered more complex cigars.

I actually like the Maddies quite a bit. The naturals are a bit light, but I find the maddies to be a good mild smoke.

I'd reccomend a 5 Vegas Gold if you haven't already had them. They're a pretty flavorful mild smoke, and they get alot better with a few months age. I really prefer the fullest body available, but I keep some of these on hand for whenever I'm in the mood for a mild one. You can pick them up for $2-$3 on Cbid.

Re: Helix X550 (my first review)

Agree on the Helix. Very, very mild. Was also one of the first smokes I ever tried and honestly tried it for the reason that it was mild. Not being a cigarette smoker I was worried that a "heavy" or complex cigar would be too much to handle.

I haven't had the naturals, but I was pleasantly surprised by the maduros. Mild? Yup. But very tasty - great for a morning weekend smoke. I tried several sizes and liked the XP the best (and bought a box).

Re: Helix X550 (my first review)

I agree with the review....but I acutally really enjoyed the Helix X550.

For the price, it makes a great everyday cigar. If I could afford it, I would smoke Rocky Patel 1992 vintage everyday, but seeing as I have a newborn at home, I cannot always spend the big money. I can get a box of 25 X550 for 45 bucks, and can get a very enjoyable smoke. I would compare it to a Macanudo Duke of York. True, the label may look a little cheezy and plain, but you can judge a book by its cover. I am big fan of this cigar.

Re: Helix X550 (my first review)

Early on, I liked these smokes. My pallate has changed and now they're pretty much behind me, but they have their place and are a good smoke for people just starting out smoking cigars.
