Talking Momma - Cusano C10 Review

I read an online article suggesting these taste almost exactly like Montecristo 4 habanos. Yeah, yeah, Thompsons taste habano to some people. But this guy, Steve Saka, knows his smokes, so I emailed Cusano and they let me know when they were shipping. I ordered a box of 10 Monday, they arrived yesterday and I had to burn one for breakfast. After smoking one I got online immediately to buy more and found my source was sold out (less than a week...bummer) so I found somebody else with them for a bit higher price. Ahh, the trials and tribulations of a cigar junkie.

They come in purple boxes of 10 with a red ribbon that allows you to slip them up one at a time. I got box no. 61. I don't have a cooler at home (I keep that at work because the temperature is more stable there) so I unboxed them and dropped them in a humidor.

[LESS THAN 12 HOURS LATER]

Beautiful small corona, 5 x 42, light brown wrapper, perfect size for that morning coffee. The box says the wrapper is 1996 Cuban seed Ecuador, binder Sumatra from Mexico (199, and filler Jamastran Visus Honduras (1999), Broadleaf Visus USA (199, Pilato Seco DR 1999 and San Vincente DR (1999). Obviously Cusano put a lot of thought into blending these, and it shows in the smoke.

Snipped the end with a Pailo, lit her up but the draw was tight, so I snipped a bit more. Draw was still a bit tight but adequate, but remember they didn't even have 12 hours in my humidor (still in cello). I think letting them relax a few weeks will fix that.

Man, what flavor. I would have sworn these were habanos if I was smoking blind, ash was cuban gray, with lighter color in the wrapper and darker in the binder, like I've seen a few smokes. The filler ash had a feathery character that I've seen in some of my Party shorts. I've wondered about that, but I've never seen that in other cigars. Anyhow, I don't have the vocabulary of ElkTwin or jazznut, so all I can say is cowabunga, brothers, cowabunga.

Draw perked up after an inch, must have been a knot there. Burn was sharp all the way down despite the pitifully short time in the humidor they received. It did burn a bit hot, as if the smoke was channeling rather than running down the filler. I expect equilibration in a humidor will fix that problem.

Great habano taste, smooth, sweet, rich and satisying. Just a wonderful smoke and my new NC favorite. In fact, were these cheaper or available in cabinets of 50, I think they might rival Party Shorts as my "go to" short smoke.

Rating 5 smoking buddies out of 5 (can't post that many images....you get the idea)

Sean, I read your post and went to Cusanos website to find out more. I don't see where they have a C10. Is it also called something else? I'm interested in trying them after reading your post (cowabunga works for me) and hoped to find them on the Cusano site.

They don't have them up on the web site yet. Look at

www.2guyssmokeshop.com

or

http://www.cigar.com/cigars/default....list&brand=C10

also read some here

http://cigars.about.com/library/weekly/aa072504a.htm

I haven't seem that much about them yet but 2guys sold out of boxes in less than a week so somebody besides me has them.

Re: Momma - Cusano C10

Here's my rating for the C10. Loved'em, glad you all like'em too

Appearance/Construction 14/15

Very Aromatic pre-light Aroma. Medium brown Toothy wrapper with minimal veins. Firm to the touch with a silky feel.

Flavor/Body 24/25

Very Sweet Aroma, very strong and very pungent. A deep, sweet chocolate, toasty flavor with slightly less body but balanced for the most part.

Smoking Characteristics 23/25

A perfect burn the whole way down with a solid, almost black ash. The Flavor never diminished and the body caught up to it.

Overall Impression 31/35

I loved this Corona. Smoked it to the nub and wanted another. It had a very slight bitter aftertaste but I smoked it fast. Havn't had a cigar like this in a while. Flavors erupted on the Palate. Can't wait to smoke again.

92/100

I just bought two boxs so I can rate them all and take an average to see how good this is in the long run. I was shocked. The flavor and Aroma made my mouth waster. One of the best I've had in a while.

Re: Momma - Cusano C10

After reading this thread I went online to find the C10 and finally found them in stock at ecigardepot.com. I placed an order last Wednesday and I'm still waiting 7 days later. Hopefully they show up soon as I could have bought them from another source for about 3 bucks more that typically has my stuff here in about 3 days and I'd have smoked 2 or 3 by now.

Sean turned me on to a good source and I went elsewhere to save 3 bucks!!! I just placed an order for some other smokes that are gonna cost me $395.00 but I saved that $3 on the box of C10s didn't I !!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you're trying to make me jealous kamikaiguy but it won't work. I got my 10 box #00174 UPS today, a little later than I wanted but I'll be smoking them soon and let you know what I think.

Re: Momma - Cusano C10

I couldn't wait to try the C10 so after last nights hockey game, I went with a couple of guys that I skate with that also smoke cigars for a beer. I took the whole box of C10s with me and I've got 3 left.

I liked the construction, flavor, burn and overall experience. I highly recommend the C10, for what you pay for a box these are a bargain. My buddies obviously liked them as they smoked 2 each inside of 2 hours.

Kamikaiguy, it must be tough being as good looking as you are. I admit, everytime I see your picture next to your posts I doubletake to make sure that it's you and not Brad Pitt that I'm seeing.

Re: Momma - Cusano C10

I had a C10 on Wednesday and damn what a fine smoke it was. Slow and cool burning; I puffed on it hard several times and couldn't get it to turn bitter. This cigar could easily sell for twice its price and be worth it. At $5.50 to $6 retail it is really a killer for a lot of cigars in that price range.

Thanks a bunch for the good review on these Sean, I will certainly be getting a few boxes of them.

Re: Momma - Cusano C10

TX--do you know what box number it was from -- I've had two from box 1475 and both of them were full of flavor but were very harsh. Mine need to rest for awhile.
