Cohiba Red Dot bent me over and whipped my carcas

After spending a nice afternoon with the inlaws, my father in law and I went pick up some pizza at a local joint. Nice wood burning oven...the works. We slammed back a few brews and smokes some nice stogies (me = RPSG PC, F-I-L = Juan Lopez) at the bar while we waited for the pizza to bake. We brought the pizza back to the fam and we all chowed down on some absouletly awesome pizza. After, we retired to the smoking cave and I fired up a Cohiba Red Dot Robusto. The taste was initially very metallic and struck me odd. After a few draws, I was nautious by the taste of this cigar. Now let me clarify...I LOVE Cohiba RD. I think they are a great cigar. But today they just didn't go well with the beer or pizza or both. The cigar was fowl to me. I put it down after a few draws, quite dissapointed. Oh well...$hit happens, right? What's the best cure? Well, I'm smoking an Aurora 1495 series and it's hitting the spot. Just goes to show you, even the best cigars can have off days!

Personally, I think these are decent, but not great. The price is WAY too high, but it is generally a solid smoke. Sorry to hear you got a bad one, that always sucks. I'm a fan of pitching bad smokes early, that way there is a short amount of dissapointment, and a lot more enjoyment!

Nice to have a Father in law you can do that kind of stuff with, though!

I think the Cohiba Red Dot is a turd imitation of the real Cuban one. Shame on the damn company who try to copy-cat a famous brand name cigar and turn it into a dog rocket (And yet they got away with it in the lawsuit). And yes I had my share and experience with Cohiba Red Dirt. The best I can describe is bland and grassy, like a freaking pad of green grass smell.

Hmm...kinky title..

Seriously though, the Red Dots are ok, but nowhere near as good as the price would lead you to believe. It could have been a bad stick, or just a bad combination of everything. Glad the Aurora hit the spot for you though!

i don't think that the red dot is supposed to be any kind of imitation of it's cuban counterpart. but for an nc i do believe it's a decent smoke. i have a good friend that is a fairly avid cigar smoker and he thinks these things are the cream of the crop. in fact he recently changed jobs (a very good upgrade from the former) and i gifted him four of the very smokes that were mentioned above. i really thought he was gonna shed a tear!

to each his own.
