Viejo by Puros Indios Presidente Maduro Review

Oh.... I liked this cigar. I was planning to do a Nestor Reserve Maduro 2nd review but it was plugged and I have yet to aquire a set of Henry's tools. So I went with my backup. I picked up a fiver of Viejo by Puros Indios Presidente Maduro on cbid on a whim. I usually a robusto or toro fan so this longer narrower smoke was unusual for me.

Setting: Pool room at the Elks club with a dozen friends smoking my cigars. Thank god for the devil site.

Pre light: Nice carmel colored wrapper, small fine veins, somewhat velvety wrapper. Very light colored for a maduro. I wouldn't obviously spot this as a maduro on looks. At 7.0 x 48 This is a lot of cigar.

Cut: Used a punch cutter. Cut nice and clean no cracking. Proper draw.

Light: Lit with matches lit surprisingly quickly and easily.

Burn: Even burn line. A couple of minor touch ups.

Ash: Even light grey and pretty solid.

I could probably break this down into to 1/4 if I had paid attention. Seeing as it was a party I didn't take notes like I normally do. So quick and dirty. From the first puff I liked the flavor on this stick. It had good body and rich with a hint of honey, and cinnamon spice. Some tasty spice to this stick more say a ginger spice than a pepper spice. The only reason I didn't nub it was we ran out of time after 90 min I still had some going. Never got harsh. Didn't need to purge at all. Burned cool and tasty all the way along. Did build some strength as I smoked. Lots of big fluffy smoke. This is one of the best cigars I have had in a while. I would definitely buy these again.

Re: Viejo by Puros Indios Presidente Maduro

I do like the Puros Indios Viejo series, they stand far above the "run of the mill" PI's and deliver more in the flavor department. If you can find the Viejo '99s, that is a must try. The PI Viejos also hit a nice price point, they are one of my top "yard gars" as a result.
