Thumbs up Excalibur No.1 Maduro Review

I am sure that many of you have tried this cigar already but here is my review:

The sight of this cigar in my local B&M immediately grabbed my attention. Great appearance, superb construction and nice size (54 x 7.25). I like big ring gauge for the way it feels in my hand and I was looking for a long smoke. Cut and lit perfectly and easily (oh yeah, it was my first cut with the new Palio. Wow.. thanks Bigwaved for the GB). Medium bodied but not quite as strong as many maduros. Creamy and smooth all the way to the end with even burn, nice ash and great smoke output for the entire 7.25 inches. Left me with a great aftertaste (but not too much) that I wish many cigars would have. A great cigar plain and simple.

I think I'll have to pick up a box of these. They are definitely in my "to smoke again" category and highly recommended.

It's been a long time since I've had one of these... I used to love 'em. I'm going to order some.
Thanks for your review. It was a great reminder of a cigar I haven't enjoyed in a while.

Re: Excalibur No.1 Maduro

Bump. Just smoked one of these this afternoon and here's my take on it -

First of all, love the appearance, very classy presentation. Almost oscuro. This cigar is from a fiver I bought about 2 years ago. Lit very easily and burn clean and straight with no touch ups and an absolutely snow white ash (for those of you who hold a white ash in high regard). Nice easy draw and big volumes of smoke.

These have gotten milder with age and I would place this in the mild-medium category; not as strong as a Padron 4000. Great taste though - a lot of sweet and tart flavors. (If any of you guys are pipers, this had a lot in common with a mild va/per blend like H&H Anni Kake.) I let it go out after about an hour and 15 minutes when the flavors started to go off track.

For the money I can't think of a big, good natured smoke I prefer to this one, especially with some age. Definitely on my box buy list.

BTW - RG bumps on tap for new reviews, I'm in serious withdrawal from T25.

Love the Excalibur Maduros although I lean toward smaller smokes. My current fav is the epicure. One of my goto smokes for sure. In 20 years I have never had one I didn't enjoy.

Re: Excalibur No.1 Maduro

Now that's what I am talking about. A good, amble cigar, plenty of smoke and flavor and reasonably priced, very reasonably price. This should be the main stay of all cigar smokers, old or new. It does not cost an arm, a leg, or your first born child and you get plenty of satisfaction out of something that cost you somewhere in $3.50 - $4.00 range. Thank you Altadis !!!

Re: Excalibur No.1 Maduro

Had one of these last week and smoked it at the B&M. Even thought the humidor is at least 80%, this one was dry. Crazy thing is, it was a great smoke. Had a couple of burn issue to the dryness but wow... will pick more of these.
