Cuban Diplomat Review
This is my first review, so be gentle ...
After a great steak dinner I went outside to enjoy our first over-35 degree night in a while. I chose a Cuban Diplomat torpedo as my smoke of choice. I've smoked six or seven different Pepin blends in the last couple of months, but I've got to say that this one was probably the most memorable of the bunch. The cigar was just over six inches with an over 50 ring gauge and a beautiful conneticut shade wrapper. Most of the Pepin blends I've tried have had a noticably peppery edge as well as a nice earthy, tobacco(y) quality that I've found very satisfying. The Cuban Diplomat was noticably milder right from the start and, though peppery, was much less forward than many of the Pepin smokes I've tried in the past. It had a fantastic pre-light draw and a silky smooth wrapper. The first couple of inches were peppery, with some noticable spice but never harsh. This was a great beginning to what would prove to be a great cigar. The middle third mellowed a bit and became noticably nutty. There was still a bit of spice and pepper, but less so than in the first third. My mouth was watering and I was loving every minute of it. The last couple of inches became a little fuller bodied, but not in the peppery "pepin" type way I would have expected. The cigar transitioned into a much woodier and slightly buttery smoke that left me begging for more right down to the nub. I'm not one to assign number ratings to cigars, but I would say that this was one of the most satisfying smokes I've had in a while. And I have to say that a conneticut shade wrapper on a pepin smoke was a great call. I'm seriously considering a box of these as my next purchase, and I'd love to hear others' reactions to this line. |

Re: Cuban Diplomat
I have one of these in my humi, from the CS Pepin Sampler I ordered a while ago. Thanks for the review, I can't wait to try mine.

Re: Cuban Diplomat
Great review and it sounds like a great smoke. Apparently these are the same blend as the Havana Soul only difference being the conneticut shade wrapper.
