Tonights smoke

was a 1964 PAM Torpedo.

Construction

The construction of this cigar is flawless....with a the dark wrapper it just looks sweet.

Pre-light

Pre-light draw is good......a little sweet, and lots of tobacco taste.

Toast

I toast the foot before lighting, use a match to light it...no problems there or thoughout the entire cigar. Burns nice and even the whole time.

Taste

Is really very good. With hints of chocolate, cocoa and spice. I would have to say that this is my favorite domestic. I have yet to find one that smokes so well, never heats up. I took about an hour to smoke it. Never got harsh, never got bitter...now it isn't as complex as I'm use too. It stayed the same the whole time, but how can that be bad when your flavors are chocolate, cocoa and spice. When I purged it there was never a huge flame, and I think that helped it not get bitter on me. This is just a great cigar. Unlike the regular Padrons that, IMHO, taste like smoking dirt. And I also find this to be much better then the 1926 I've smoked. If it wasn't for the price I could see having a box or two around. I have one more. It belive it is an "A", but I'm not sure. Look forward to see what it is like.

Great review of a great (domestic) cigar. The pic's make it even better. Your experience here is the opposite of most of us... coming from vs heading towards the dark side.

It sure is a purdy thing,I have one in the humidor that I paid dang near 10 bucks for and being a PO MO FO I haven't had the guts to fire it up,but it sure is tempting. I have a PSD4 to smoke tomorrow that I got from a great BOTL on here.. Geeze I almost forgot, great review CT..

i'm not a cuban elitist, as you have suggested. i have had this cigar before, and while very good, i still like most mainstream cubans more.
these are all constructed to perfection for draw/appearance, and one of them that i've had burned like an ice cream scooper, the others have been fine.

anyway - not a cuban elitist as you've perceived me to be... as someone mentioned on another forum a long time ago, i smoke cubans because i like their flavors more/better, and for most non-cubans that come close to cubans in the taste category, they are overpriced.

i still smoke "cheap" non-cubans as well (trilogy authentic corojo is my favorite non-cuban, can be bought for under $4) as other non-cubans. i have been known to grab a helix, cheapy HdM, JDN's, CAOs, perdomos, toranos, padrons, camacho, gurkha, olivia master blends, and a handful of others when i'm out and about.

hey, smoke what you want to smoke, if it's good for you, then that's very cool with me.
