Zino Platinum Septer Bullet - left me wanting

I was in one of the local shops and picked up a few new things to try.

I once smoked a Zino that had a REALLY poor draw, which usually causes me to avoid that brand for life, but something struck me about these perfectos. Maybe it was the shiney band. I'm like a bird that way.

Now, I'm a spoiled-ass from internet buying so I was only looking to buy things $6 or less, so I ended up getting the BULLET which is an about a 3" perfecto version of the Zino Platinum Septer. This leaves you with about 1.75" of smoking experience. It turns out, that's not enough.

My drive to work is about 20 minutes and this cigar was the perfect size for the drive, but it left me scratching my head all day.

When I first lit it and drew my first few draws I was in ABSOLUTE HEAVEN! After that... um... not so much. It was a little plain. Woody and a nice taste at that, but very one-dimentional. Or, at least, that's the best I could tell.

It turns out, some cigars are just too short of a smoke to really figure out. By the time I got into taste-investigating the cigar, it was over!

I suspect this cigar has an absolutely phenomenal wrapper. When I lit the perfectoish foot, drew and tasted it, it almost blew my head off with pleasure. The way I have it figured, the perfecto end creates a concentration - a much greater percentage of wrapper-to-filler ratio when you first light because of the shape, so when I first lit it, I was getting a higher concentration of wrapper taste.

But, getting into the cigar, I was just getting down from the initial flavor-high of the wrapper-concentrated light that it took me a while to settle and start to concentrate on the flavor of the rest of the cigar. BUT, shortly after, it was all over.

Frankly, this cigar left me wondering what I missed. If it's a marketing tool, it's a darned good one. Because now, I have to buy the $10-$15 version of the cigar to see what I missed.

Let this be a lesson to us. I won't know until I try a larger version, but I think it's fair to say that the tiny "sampler" versions of cigars aren't always the way to try a cigar. I'll end up spending $20 just to find out what this line of cigars are all about.

But, man, there was something special about that wrapper. I just HAVE to find out what the rest of the story is about.

thanks for the review!

I think Zino Platinums are good cigars... but not worth the money.

I was gifted a couple Crown Series Chubby Especials... I had one and used one in a bomb. it was pretty good... actually, for a FREE stick, it was excellent!

http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=62805

it was pretty strong... a lot stronger than I expected... and the flavor was not bad at all... and construction was admirable... but I've seen the prices of these at my local B&M... heck, just going on the MSRP, I know I can find as good a stick for a lot less.

good luck on your next ones... hope they live up to your expectations!

Re: Zino Platinum Septer Bullet - left me wanting

I would agreee with the bullet being a teaser.

I am a big fan of the Platinum Grand Master. I think its an excellent blend with perfect construction. Its a slow burn that is razor sharp.

You can score the Grand Master on the auction sites for about $100 for 12.
So that about $8.30 a stick and I think its worth it. Its not my everyday smoke but its a nice treat once a month.

Good review
