Review of n3uka's Thompson's Matchplay

I'm a noob so I don't know how to link to the original post by n3uka, but the Readers Digest version is that n3uka found some Thompson's Cigars that had been ageing in his closet for three years. I volunteered to do a review of them, so Dave sent me a couple to do just that. Did I mention I'm a noob.

I decided to smoke the Matchplay first because well, it came in a cool looking tube. My Wife said it smelled like green pepper while in the tube but it lacked any smell out of the tube. The cigar was kind of dry and the wrapper was veiny. I clipped the cigar and the cap came off.

The first third of the cigar pretty much tasted like nothing, but there was loads of smoke, but the strange thing was the smoke didn't smell.

The second third tasted the same as the first but the cigar was burning hotter.

The last third started to taste like I was licking an ashtray, it was pretty bad. I smoked it to the band but couldn't go any farther, I was thinking that I might have to use a tongue scraper for the first time.

I think maybe I have confirmed that ageing a bad cigar results in an aged bad cigar. I can't imagine what these would have tasted like three years ago.

I have one more to review, it's called Fore. My wife runs a non-profit organization that pays for breast cancer treatment for uninsured women and they will be hosting a celebrity golf tournament next month, I will review that cigar then.

Be my guest, I can't wait to read your take on them.

Re: Review of n3uka's Thompson's Matchplay

Ok here goes. Pulled this beautiful pale green tube out of the humi and withdrew the cigar.
Was a light colored wrapper with a few veins but nothing too bad.
Went ahead and clipped with the Xikar. Cut was clean.
the pre-light draws offered up a weird taste that I cannot describe.

Lit it up and was immediatley assaulted with a taste unlike anything I have ever tasted. I must have made a funny face because I noticed the dogs laughing at me.
The draw was very loose and the cigar produced voluminous clouds of smoke. The first third never got any better.
I must admit that the ash held on very well.

Unfortunately this cigar never got any better but i promised to smoke it and smoke it I did.

This cigar may be the worst i have smoked to this day.
I think that now I will go brush my teeth and then smoke a Anejo
to try and get over this experience.
n3uka thanks for the chance to do the review and I wish we could have found a diamond in the rough but it was not meant to be with this cigar.

I always knew Thompson's cigars were horrible. This thread confirms that!
