Ashton VSG - Review from a mild cigar lover

I smoke about 80% mild cigars. Strong cigars make me a little queezy in my stomach.

The Ashton VSG did too, but I smoked it anyway because it was so tasty.

I did NOT do that with an Opus X last summer if that tells you anything. It went out the car window or else I would have hurled.

I'm usually a 30-second puffer but the VSG forced me to slow down to about 3 times the wait. It was a little peppery, but mostly it was spicy the way Indian food is spicy. Eastern spicy. Seems like a good, comforting, cold-day smoke.

The second third either mellowed a lot or I just got used to it because I could more freeley smoke it without feeling bad.

Apparantly, some cigars are still worth sipping slowly even if you're a strong-cigar wuss like me.

Good review! I'm thinking of picking some of those babies up. You have convinced me to give it a try.

These are fantastic smokes. Complex, rich and never a dull moment. Highly recommend them.

Ahh, I was winging it, but thanks. It was yesterday and I need to try another one. I think some cigars need a couple tries to get a good flavor profile.

Yup. I did some reading afterward and read that some of them are really harsh and really need a year in the humidor before smoking. This may have been one of those.

I've not given up. I may buy two, try one and throw the other in my humidor for a year. I'm sure I'm missing something. Maybe I need to try the really-slow-smoke technique again with the Opus X. Heck, it's from the same company that makes the VSG and the regular Ashton Classic, which is one of my favorites, so it's probably worth the work and the while to figure that cigar out.

Great review bro! I love Ashton VSG's! I lucked out big time when I won a box of VSG Tres Mystiques on CBid, it's soooo hard not to smoke them everytime I want to smoke a cigar.

Re: Ashton VSG - Review from a mild cigar lover

How come when I do an advanced search for "VSG" in subject titles it comes back as:

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

Is my search term too short? (Sometimes forum search engines have a limit on how short your term can be.)

Surely, someone's talked about this one before?

Thanks for the review. I also usually smoke mild or medium cigars but I will have to try them.
