Bahia Trinidad Robusto Review

Measures: 5 x 50
Wrapper: 2-year-aged Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper
Binder: 4-yr-aged Nicaraguan Cuban seed filler
Filler: 4-yr-aged Nicaraguan Cuban seed binder
Origin: Nicaragua
Strength: Full
Shape: Robusto

Construction: The construction of this cigar was top notch. The cigar was wrapped nice and tight with no visible blemishes and it held together very nicely throughout the smoking. I punch cut the cigar and the cap was very well attached (I have had some cigar caps that have come off when I punched them).

Pre Light: The pre light draw was a little tight and had what I can only describe as an earthy taste.

Lighting: I toasted the foot and lit the cigar with my Colibri firebird lighter.

Smoking Experience: The cigar produced a good amount of smoke and the smoke was nice and creamy. The first dozen or so puffs were pretty spicy on the tongue but after that the cigar mellowed out and had an earthy/grassy taste for the remainder. The smoke had an almost floral smell to it but nothing overpowering. The cigar is touted as full strength but I found it to be more of a medium. This cigar burned very evenly from start to finish with no touch ups. It also had a nice grayish/white ash that was about 1.5 inches when it finally fell off.

Overall Impression: I bought a 5-pack of these from Famous because Gary had them as a Pick of the Month in the new catalog. Overall this cigar was so-so with nothing, IMHO, to set it apart from the masses. I guess being new to cigar smoking I am looking for a cigar/cigars that WOW me right from the start and keep my attention throughout the smoking experience. The Bahia Trinidad started out spicy, which I liked, but then it mellow and mellowed too much for my tastes. I still have a couple of these in the humi and I will let them sit for a while and see if age adds and hopefully doesn’t detract from them.
