Review Revisited: La Finca Robusto Black

I reviewed the La Finca Black Robusto just a while back and gave it a favorable review. Also, I have supported the positive reviews of this cigar as they come up on the board. However …..

Well, I must have gotten a rotten box!

The construction is terrible on 80% of these. They feel fine but burn like crap; canoe - leaving one side unburned; run – burning a patch down one side; hot spotting – where a hot spot shows up a half an inch to an inch down from the cherry; etc. I even had one tunnel so bad that I got warm charcoal in my mouth and the cherry was only about half way down the cigar!

Also the flavor is off, gone is that distinctive spicy flavor, and it is replaced with a bland, borderline harsh cardboard taste. YUK! Just barely smokeable.

I keep firing one up, hoping – but I have gone through about a dozen of these over the last month and only 2 were decent. It is quite hard to believe that many could be bad by accident. I mean, sure, I expect the occasional flaw in a box, but this is ridiculous.

Anyway, I hope it is just this one box because I bought 3 of them the other two sitting in storage.

Construction problems - That's interesting because that's about the only good thing I can say about this line

I have never had a La Finca that I could give a good rating to. They have all had burn problems, flavor difficiencies followed by a lousy finish and aftertaste. Overpriced at $1.50 a pop as is most of the Nafta cigar lines.
