After an absolutely dog-awful day today, I dragged my sorry a$$ home and knew I'd need a nice pleasant pick-me-up. So I peered into Humi #3 & picked out this luscious little number.
Perdomo Estate Seleccion Regente, a 5" x 54 maduro, Nicaraguan puro. It's one of many that have been quietly napping for over six months. "It is your time" I whispered as I gently removed it from it's final resting place. Poured myself a tall Myers Rum on the rocks, squeezed some lime into it, & retreated to the back porch. Weather finally broke, so it's outside smoking time! I cut the end with my trusty Exacto knife & fired it up with my welder's torch....well no, but I never understand why reviewers of cigars insist on telling me about their toys. Nick Perdomo has hired some excellent rollers for these stogies. Deep dark wrapper that's perfectly placed. A light squeeze shows no soft spots, & only one hard point that doesn't seem to threaten a good time. On lighting, it gives a leathery base taste, with hints of cocoa, orange & spice mixed with cedar. Very similar to a Carlos Torano Signature, but a bit stronger. This flavor medley continues fairly uninterrupted for the first third. Draw is quite good, producing ample smoke. The second third changes to a predominantly wood & spice taste, but leather & cocoa are still present in the background. The nicotine picks up a bit at this stage also, getting stronger. This continues into the last third, then gets stronger. It's a decent strength, a fuller end of medium here, with a musky leather & spice and the cedar/citrus coming back for an encore. Towards the end, it develops a definite nicotingle; not a "twang", but a nice buzzing of the lips. Oddly, this smaller size of the line are actually less strong than the larger sizes. Go figure. I nubbed this bad boy until I held it with my fingernails, then wished it a fond farewell. Overall, I really enjoy this smoke (can you tell?). At regular retail, about $9.00 apiece, I admit I'd pass these by as too expensive for the goods. But thanks (or no thanks) to the Devil Site, I regularly pick these up for $11.00 a 5-pack - at that price, about $2.20 each, it's a definite getter, highly recommended!
