Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion Churchill Review

Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion Churchill

I haven't tried this cigar before but I got one in a trade so I thought it would be a nice stick to start the day.

It is a Nicaraguan puro with a criollo wrapper. It has a nice dark brown oily sheen with almost no visible veins. It feels a little bit light in my hands as if it was rolled loose. The cap is flawless.

I clipped it with my Xikar using the table top method as described here a few days ago. I love that method as it takes off just enough but not too much. The pre-light draw feels good. I'm getting a good amount of air through it, hopefully not too much once it's lit!

I toasted it and then did the puff and rotate until it was glowing. Very nice even light so I can fairly rate the burn. The first thing I notice is a lot of spice right from the beginning. It's not overwhelming but definitely full flavor kicks in immediately. I would say medium bodied at this point. It's producing a lot of smoke with each puff and the draw is definitely very easy. It was rolled loose and is burning pretty fast.

About half way in it has calmed down. It's burning slower and the flavor has mellowed. At first this reminded me of a Mayorga maduro but now without the initial roughness it is definitely more refined. I'm really enjoying this one.

Finished the first two-thirds and I think I'll stop here. It's starting to burn a little hot. But it was very consistent to this point. Maybe rolled just slightly tighter would have made the difference between stopping here or nubbing it.

It should be mentioned that it burned perfectly even from start to finish. I didn't have to touch it up at all.

Overall I'm impressed. It's not nearly as strong as the JdN Antano but the flavor is very good. It's spicy but mellow all the way through. It keeps your palate interested but doesn't smack you around. A very nice churchill that you could enjoy any time of the day.

Good review. Have not tried these yet, but will have to soon. I prefer my cigars a little loose.

I've only had the Antano 1970 and it was way too powerful for me.
Maybe I should pick up one of these.

I love these cigars. I have a few more of the Consuls left and you'd definitely be welcome to one of them.

BTW, I have no clue how you smoked one of these first thing in the morning and didn't

Nice review,

I've only smoked the Consul to date. I just can't get into really big smokes. They are definitely a step down in power from the Antano, but still very tasty smokes.

great review on one of the few NCs I still enjoy. Strong, full bodied, well made and reasonably priced!

I have an iron stomach.

Seriously I've been smoking several cigars per day for about 5-6 years now. About the only thing I can't take first thing in the morning would be a Camacho Corojo. I know those aren't the strongest cigars out there but for some reason they nail me every time unless I have one after dinner.
