JdN Antano Consul Review
I got this smoke in the tinderbox $20 sampler a few weeks ago. I ate a decent meal a few hours before smoking this and also went to the liquor store and found a bottle of 12 year Elijah Craig to go along with it. Poured a small glass of bourbon, 2 ice cubes and cut the cap clean off. Perfect draw. I was hoping to get a taste like a caramel chocolate bar, but it just tasted like good tobaccie. I toasted and lit the foot and started puffing and sipping away. The first thing that stuck out to me was how slow burning this cigar was. I have no idea how long it ended up taking, but it took 7-10 minutes to burn though the first quarter inch. The flavor was quite good and paired well w/ some good bourbon. I didn't notice much of a profile change until the end when the spice and pepper started to pick up, but that could also be because I was smoking faster due to my drink being gone. Another interesting thing was the ash. I let the ash go for about 1.5-1.75 inches and figured it probably needed to be ashed (it was dark and I couldnt really see if it was firm or not, plus I was about 7-8 ounces of 94 proof alcohol in) so I "lightly" pushed it on the ground to get the ash to knock off. This stuff was friggin tough. I picked it back up and looked at the ash and it was kinda crooked but still hanging on easily. So I finally nudged it enough to get it off but I have no doubt it woulda held quite a bit longer. I've never had a cigar like that, the ash literally felt solid when I first tried to nudge it off.
Overall I'd give this thing about an 8 or 8.5. I wouldn't mind a box of these, but I think I need a box of SS first! And one more thing, I never got the least bit of "too much buzz to handle" even while french rolling. Do you guys who get that not do any other kinds of nic? I smoke cigars, chew, and rarely smoke cigs, and the most I've ever gotten was a slight head buzz. |

Re: JdN Antano Consul
I really like this cigar, I find it strong but not overbearing. It is definitely a slow smoker.

Re: JdN Antano Consul
Thanks for the review. I'm a can a day dipper and I still get a little buzz about the last 1/3 of this cigar. I think it just has alot of nicotine in it.

Re: JdN Antano Consul
Good job. I did get a buzz from this cigar, but I only smoke 5 or 6 cigars a week.

Re: JdN Antano Consul
i'm noticing JdN getting a lot of buzz out here lately - which is good, as i think this is a great brand! well made, VERY reasonably priced and one of the few NCs i still enjoy - although i prefer the celebracion line myself. regarding time spent smoking this one and the ash - one thing you can definately say about JdNs is that they're dense and long lasting smokes. great review, btw!

Re: JdN Antano Consul
I get a little cinnamon from these, from what I remember. I have a box of the consuls that I got cheap on cbid and I'm just letting them sit.
