Gurkhas

Tried a Gurkha for the first time last night and was impressed. Didn't like the price attached to it, but didn't mind too much, seeing as I still had a gift certificate to use. Loved the subtle chocolate flavor of it. Lasted a little over an hour. Would recommend it with a Spiced rum like Captain Morgans or Myers, which is what I had with it. Anyone else tried this smoke?

Any recommendations.

Re: Gurkhas

Gurkha has some fine cigars. I've only smoked four, two 8 year aged anniversario perfectos and two Centurian Double X perfectos. I found both of these to be great smokes. Here's a review I wrote in the Top 25.

What a beauty! At first glance the Centurian XX is a sight to behold. It's appearance and construction were nearly flawless. From the dark brown oily wrap to the to the beautiful band surrounding it. I almost just wanted to look at these for a while. I have smoked two this week and really enjoyed them both. They were tasty from the first puff with flavor developing throughout. They burned perfectly which was impressive considering the shape. The ash was nearly white and very firm. I actually had to shake it loose as it approached two inches. These things produce volumes of thick, rich, milky smoke. My living room looked like there was a fire smoldering somewhere. For the most part I only smoke full cigars so I may be a poor judge, but I would best describe these as medium bodied and flavored with a strong finish. If you do plan on smoking one put a little time aside Mine took almost an hour and a half and left me reeling. I remember looking at it a few times and thinking "are you kidding me?" Judging from the amount of these floating around I think the Sultan may have a new smoke. Do yourself a favor and pick a few up The MSRP may be ridiculous but they are well worth the $9 or $10 you should be able to find them for.

I would also highly recommend the 8 year aged.

Re: Gurkhas

I have liked every gurkha I have smoked - the Master's Select line has some killer perfectos - I think I smoked the no.2's - great medium body, lots of subtle spice and cedar. I've also had a legend toro that blew me away, but it seems a bit pricey to me.

I am also a huge fan of all the K. Hansotia smokes I've had. The Gold is a fantastic cigar with a flavor not quite like anything else I've tried. I am also extremely fond of the Signature 101's. In fact , the Park Ave ser #44 (more budget-conscious) is a great medium priced cigar, too.

I'm really glad to hear such a good review of the Centurian - I just made a deal with the devil for a box of these. I think I'll somke one on my anniversary.

Re: Gurkhas

Cigars international is the Gurkha center of the universe. You can get just about everything they make plus the spin offs like Sherpa, Park Avenue, Ancient Warrior, K Hansottia, Caffe tabac, East India.... Sorry if I missed any. I'm pretty sure they are all made by Torano.

They have a couple of decent samplers which allow to to explore the whole line.

I like the expeditions as one of my milder everyday smokes.

I agree... I have most except for the Centurion and I have liked every one of them... great construction, burn and flavor. The Park Avenue 44's are a great smoke. Better on the wallet as well.

Re: Gurkhas

I've had a few Masters select that didn't do it for me. I've put the last one to rest in the Humi.

I did get a chance to try a few of the K Hansotia Limiteds that come in the leather case in 10 lots and absolutely loved em. I'd really like to get some more if anyone has a line on em at a reasonable price.

Re: Gurkhas

I love the Gurkha line! Great cigars with very good flavor that is consistent in all of the cigars I have had.

Two suggestions for buying Gurhkas - 1) try http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/ I have bought every gurhka I have ever had from them and always get them at a reasonable price. 2) try the Sherpa line - same company as Gurhka but the cigars are nearly half the price and have that same great flavor!
