Thumbs down Davidoff Millenium Blend petit corona Review

I recently made a trade with a buddy for one of these. Upon receiving it I was immediately impressed with the "yellow cello" it was encased in. I was headed up to Gloucester tonight to meet a friend for seafood and figured the ride would be a good time to enjoy it.

Appearance was beautiful...dark oily and toothy. Nice cap and when I inspected the foot it looked as if some lighter tan filler was peaking out at me. All in all a great looking smoke.

I toasted the foot and took my first puff. I was immediately surprised by the strength of this little smoke. How could suck a small smoke have such kick? By the 2nd or 3rd puff I was in awe...and not in a good way. This thing was just plain strong and the finish was outrageous. I didn't care for the taste at all. I purged it and she opened up a bit. The next 2 puffs were pleasant and I got some coffee and woody notes...3rd puff was just like the first few. It had a very strong chemical taste which I did not care for. I'll clarify one thing I enjoy full smokes so it wasn't that this cigar was just too full for me...it tasted nasty.

I tried to enjoy this smoke and had hope that as she burned the blend would change a bit...it didn't. As I approached the first of the 2 bands I removed it. Taking one more puff I decided to remove the cigar altogether and tossed it out my window where it's probably still lodged in the snowy crest of a Jersey barrier.

Huge dissapointment! My buddy who works at a tobacconist swears these are the only good Davidoff's and smokes them all the time. At best I would try another for free to see if this was just a dud. These little cigars cost $12, which I would more happily use as a down payment on a root canal.

Re: Davidoff Millenium Blend petit corona

This was my experience with the Churchill as well. There I was looking at simply one of the finest looking cigars I've ever seen, staring at the Davidoff band and thinking about its great history, and wondering why it had to taste so damn bad! Strong and nasty! Not complex, NASTY. Until the Millenium Blend, I had never considered chucking a $22 smoke.

I hear the Double R is the quintessential Davidoff to try. Have you had it?

Re: Davidoff Millenium Blend petit corona

I have to ask this question as a relative newcomer to the world of cigars. Is the Davidoff brand really worth the money? I've read about how good they are and so on, but the price is very high compared to other well known cigars. Does the fact that its considered a 'boutique' brand have much to do with it? Maybe someday I'll come across one and get to experience it for myself.

Re: Davidoff Millenium Blend petit corona

I have not had the Double R and would be willing to take one more stab at them. I can say one thing with the price and my experience with them, these cigars will never make it into my lineup unless I find a box on the side of the road.

To answer your question Jeff...people have different palates. A good example of that is my friend and I tend to enjoy the same cigars. He actually took this one from his stash and it has been sitting for quite sometime. He loves them...I dont. Doesn't mean it's a bad cigar. Many people smoke Davidoff...just not many people I know. For the price Davidoff demands for 1 smoke I would much rather buy 3 decent Habanos or 2 Anejos. With that being said, Davidoff has a great reputation with many people and I am certain many do not share my opinion. After all it is an opinion and we know what we say about those.

If you (Jeff) want a Davidoff let me know...I'll send one out for you. It will come with a disclaimer stating if you toss it out your window and it lights the neighbor's house on fire I am not responsible. But I'll send it if you'd like.

Re: Davidoff Millenium Blend petit corona

I smoked one of these almost right after a full-bodies cigar. Big mistake. Couldn't taste the damn thing.

I had one too and it tasted like salt! Salt I tell you! The rest of the sampler is in a tupperdor on a one year minimun sentence.
