Don Kiki brown label Review

Wow, this was one nice cigar, but it was so good i had to share it with you other gorillas. I recived the kik from a newb PIF trade and i couldnt stop myself from smoking it. I have not heard anything about this cigar before, so this is an entirely inbiased review.
The wrapper was a gorgeous sungrown with no major veins, just beautiful. It smelled delicious out of the wrapper and cut very well. The draw was a bit tight (this was on a torpedo) so i just snipped a bit more off and it was fine. The pre lit cigar tasted quite spicy so i eagerly lit it up and was hit by a huge peppery taste right off the bat, but it mellowed down to some heavy floral notes in a few puffs, then it got very interesting... It got very creamy and i was very surprised when i began to notice coconut...that's right, i said coconut. The majority of the smoke was a mix of coconut and cream, paired with the sungrown wrapper for a delicious smell, i was in heaven. This lasted to about the last 1 1/2 inches where the spice picked up again for a very satisfying finish. I smoked it to the nub and it was very medium bodied until i got to the end where the spice kicked it up a notch into the full bodied range. A definite nubber, and i suggest that you go out and try it.
I hope you enjoyed the review.

Re: Don Kiki brown label

Very good review; these are on my cheapies list!

There are several cigar manufacturers that I do not like most of their cigars. Cuban Crafters/Don Kiki is another brand like this; I only like a few from them.
The Don Kiki Brown and La Carolina are both wonderful sticks at great prices from the factory.

Ask whoever sent you that DK Brown when the box was purchased. I find these sticks very smokable when fresh, but store the box a year and they are drastically improved. Judging by you getting the coconut notes I bet that stick was from a nice aged box.

The little botella figurado is my favorite in the Brown label, but the Toro and Torpedos are very good as well. I am wondering which size you smoked..

Just a question. Aren't some of the Consuegra's Kiki seconds, or is that a myth?

Thanks,

Re: Don Kiki brown label

I'll have to try the Browns.

I once had some Greens, and Christ! were they terrible. Even a year's aging couldn't make they be any less of a chit stick. Ended up using them as giveaway sticks.

You'll find them here: http://www.lilbrown.com/

Thanks,

I would guess that is a myth, hadn't heard that before. Kiki/Cuban crafters is a really small Nicaraguan botique brand.

Connies are the seconds from several Villazon Honduras factories. I would venture that more Connies in just one size are produced each year than all of the Don Kikis produced.

I have a green Label in my Humi that came with the Humidor.
I was told by another fellow BOTL that they were not bad aged also.
I know it is a mater of personal preference but I'll have to give it a try in the coming months to see how bad/good it is.

I picked up of box of 10 of Don Kiki's 420's mostly for the novelty looking back on my sordid youth.

I smoked one and in my n00b opinion it was not bad at all for a $2 mild cigar. I also went into it thinking this was a $2 stick...so no expectations.

Re: Don Kiki brown label

well, be cautious, the one i had had been aged for 2 years before i got it, so you may have to age the don kikis to get those amazing flavors, but i would definitely do it, its well worth the wait.

Don Kiki's are good smokes especially in their prices range.

They seem to be pretty hard to find most places but direct and an the Local shop i goto, Not very many people smoke them locally but when they do most most enjoy them.

420,s are really the only smokes this newbie has any experience with. Same deal, the name and at less than 2 bucks a pop, I thought I could deal with that. I found them to be very inconsistant. Smoke a couple that would be very smooth with a nutty taste. Then one that would be so rancid I couldn't smoke it. Cuban Crafters does have great customer service, BUT what I found is that very few of their cigars are in stock and the ones that are out of stock stay that way for several months. I'm currently waiting for a bundle of their Arte Cubana's. We'll see.

Re: Don Kiki brown label

I am glad you found out about these, they are a very good medium priced brand by Don Kiki. They rank as some of my favorite non cuban boutique smokes; complex and medium/full in body and well constructed. You can't go wrong with them, and as pointed out, they get much better with some time at rest in the humi.
