Thumbs up Padilla Robusto Review

I've had this cigar sitting in the back of a humidor for a few months and decided to try it last night.
It was GREAT . It's a medium bodied smoke, and you could feel the strength of the tobacco in the first hit. It started out sweet and somewhat spicy. The sweetness held on through the entire smoke. At about the halfway point, the spice turned into a fantastic peppery sensation which mixed with the sweetness was remarkable. The finish went back to spicy and sweet and the aftertaste was like eating a rich desert. I can't say enough good things about this smoke.
The pre-light draw was great, and after lighting the burn and construction were flawless. The wrapper was oily and succulent. It was one of those wrappers that feels good to hold and to the touch of your lips.
CA gave this smoke a 90 and for once I agree with their assessment! I immediately went to Cigarbid and found a five pack closing last night and put in a winning bid. With shipping included, the cost is about $3 per stick, I would have gone $4 without blinking an eye. CI has boxes of 20 for about $80 and IMHO that's a bargain for this cigar. Most of the other vendors I checked were over $100.
All in all, this cigar left me feeling satisfied. It reminded me why I love to smoke these things. I'm giving it a 9 out of 10. I strongly recommend them.

Good review, Radar!

I've been eyeing these for some time now, and this adds to my curiosity.
Which line was the one you smoked from (hybrid/conneticut/maduro)?

This was the hybrid, and it was one of the best smokes I've had in weeks. I bought it in a sampler pack from Cigarbid, and a friend told me to let it rest well before smoking it. I let it have about 3 months before trying it. So, you might want to do the same thing. It was a damned attractive cigar, rich looking, triple capped, amazing for the money.

Re: Padilla Robusto

Nice review man. I've got a bunch of these resting in humidors around here. I went a little nuts on fivers at c-bid a while back. Your friend is right.....they get much better with rest.

Shot in the dark???

Ok....just placed a order for these on Atlantic Cigar. $80 shipped to my door. Since people here seem to like them and the reviews on Top25 were good, I thought I'd give them a shot. I will let them sit in my humidor for awhile, but will probably smoke one before I leave again. To compare. Now I just have to get my other humidor ready for some domestics.......unless keeping them at 65%rh won't hurt. Don't really know if thats ok for these cigars. Any thoughts???????

Oops LOL....thats what I fet for not scrolling all the way down.....they sell them in 5ers....live and learn. This was my first order from Atlantic. Who knew...not me

Re: Padilla Robusto

I should also add that this is the first time I've ordered from a domestic vendor.........but I am really looking forward to getting these. I did some research and saw some pics....they look awsome and get great reviews. Might be a staple in my humi for times when I have a craving for something different.

Coppertop I keep my Non Cubans at 65% also. Once I have enough Cubans for a separate humidor, will keep those at 62 -63 %

Think of the Scientific method man, when testing something you try to change only one variable at a time. If you are used to smoking 65% tobacco and you light up a stick at 70% it isn't going to taste right. I can't smoke cigars the day I buy them in the shop, too most and harsh to me - most store's walk ins are 72 - 73%

Another thing you may want to try doing is to smoke the Padillas slower than you do your ISOMs. I find I can smoke Cubans much harder and faster than Nics and especailly Dominicans. Cubans reward you with more pepper when you smoke em hot and fast; a hot burning Dominican doesn't taste right to me; except for the AF Don Carlos for some reason, I buy skinny #4s in those so they burn hot.(go figure) I like the Nicaraguan bitterness, but I also like bitter in my coffee and beer; lots of Hops in my IPA or gimme an ESB! If the bitterness in a Nicarguan stick isn't to your liking smoke it slower and you will notice the bitter subside just like the pepper flavor seems to decrease when you smoke a Cuban very slowly. This is my experience anyway.

If you don't like 'em after they have aged awhile PM me and I will buy them off your elitist ass.

Matt thanks for the advice. I will smoke one when I first get them in, just a habit. Then I will let them rest for awhile. Maybe a week or two, then smoke another. Then I'll let the sleep for a few months. Since thats what Radar said he did. Then I'll try them again. I really hope I like them. They get really good reviews, so I'll just wait and see.

If I find that I don't like them I will PM you. So you can buy them off my elitist ass

Re: Padilla Robusto

Got some more Padilla's in today and couldn't wait to smoke one. Tasted very green. The resting period is good advice, they improve greatly with a few months in the humi.

Re: Padilla Robusto

I got mine in yesterday, just got done smoking one. It wasn't bad, but I think some rest is needed. I will see how these taste in a few months. I removed them from there cello this morning. Just not a big fan of cello (personal preference). It was a little spicey, but it wasn't harsh. Had a nice smooth draw. Didn't really change flavor, but maybe a few months in the humi will do them some good. We'll see. Overall, for 4 bucks a pop, not a bad smoke.
