AF 858 natural Review

I smoked one of these a few hours ago, it had been in the humi close on 2 years.

Construction: Excellent. A couple of minor soft spots, but not a problem.

Pre-light draw: Easy, but just enough resistance. Just the way I like it.

On lighting: Woody and smooth, with a hint of cedar.

1/3 way down: Here it really came into it's own. Easy draw, generous clouds of smooth, fragrant woodsy smoke, with not even a hint of roughness or edge. This stick remained enjoyable down to about the last 2", which is where I usually let them go. It got a bit more full-bodied, but never lost that lush smoothness.

Final comments: We haven't discussed this cigar much recently that I'm aware, and for me this was a true sleeper. I had bought several, smoked one young, and was not very impressed. It had that wet grassy flavor which I do not care for.
This for me was a good example of what extended time in the humi can do, even for a mild to med. stogie. The caterpillar turned into a butterfly.

Cheers, Larry.

Thanks for that. I smoked one about a month ago. I smoked it, maybe two days after I got it from my B&M so it was green. I thought is was pretty good down to about 1/2 point, then smoke got thin, just became really ho hum. Maybe I will try to sit on a few.

These have been "my cigar" for the last 20 years. I'm never without at least two boxes on hand. When they get a little age and time on the cedar, they really become better than they should IMO. I've finished one and on several occasions wondered why I smoke anything else.

I like them too - like you - after aging them a bit. They have a wonderful pleasant tobacco flavor, no bitterness whatsoever.
I should get another box so they have some time to age....
Does anyone have them on sale?

In the past couple of months Fuente has raised their prices. The last box of 858's cost me $85.- at Holts, now they are $100.- Maybe they can be found for less on another site, but considering how good they are, the current price still seems O.K. JMO. Larry.
