Avo Domaine #10 Review

Size = Robusto 5 x 50
Wrapper = Ecuadorian
Binder = Dominican
Filler = Dominican
Price = $6.80 (single stick purchased at B&M)

An attractive well made robusto. A very dark Ecuadorian wrapper, much darker than I remembered surrounds a Dominican blend and binder. Very oily with a lumpy cap and sporting a very attractive purple Avo band. The band complements the cigar color nicely and is one of my favorite bands currently produced. The bunching is firm and uniform, but the cigar provided plenty of give and had the feel of being slightly soft or wet.

Prelight aroma is barnyard like with the prelight draw providing a sweet tobacco taste, almost like drawing on a used empty pipe. Draw is easy and the cigar produces a nice smoke volume. Initial flavors are sweet tobacco and heavy loam. On a couple of draws I detected a slight pencil lead taste, but this quickly subsided.

Into the first third the flavors developed into a heavy loam flavor with wet leather. The aroma is rich, sweet with a touch of a latakia scent. The cigar does not have a peppery or spicey kick, and is more mellow with a heavy almost maduro like quality.

This cigar is very smooth, burning evenly and producing a solid med-light gray ash.

At the mid point the flavors remained pretty consistent but picked up in intensity. There is now a slight woody \ cedar taste on the finish. There is a rich fullness to the smoke and flavor even though the cigar remained mild-med in strength.

The last third the cigar got a bit soft and needed a touch up to stay lit. It also got a bit harsh but not overbearing. Overall a nice fuller bodied lighter strength smoke. I would rate it a solid 8/10
