El Rico Habano Torpedo Maduro Review
I just got a few of these in a trade and was dying to try one. The natural version of this cigar usually doesn't disappoint and I was expecting a sweeter/milder version with the maduro......it was definitely sweeter, I wouldn't classify it as milder.
Construction and appearance...........9+ out of 10..........perfectly banded, no flaws of any kind. Wrapper dark with a wonderful appearance. Pre-light draw/aroma...........7 out of 10......draw was a little firm after cutting......I cut another 1/8 inch or so which corrected the problem. Aroma IMHO was straight tobacco, nothing more. Draw/Flavor.............8.5 out of 10..........once I re-cut the cigar, the draw was perfect and it generated large volumes of smoke (which I like!). It burned evenly and did not need correction (for a large ring cigar this was a major plus for me). It held an ash as long as I wanted; it did not want to fall off! The cigar still posessed the high power liergo of its natural cousin; however, as I anticipated, the maduro wrapper added a sweetness. Whether it's the blend or wrapper, this cigar was more complex, I noted hints mocha/cocoa. This cigar still isn't very complex.......but it's not meant to be; these are supposed to be powerhouses. I would classify this cigar as starting mild to medium, but quickly building to full......with a substantial kick.....overall rating for me 8.5+ out of 10. If you like the natural line of this cigar, I would recommend this cigar. I'm smoking another when I get off work this evening. ![]()

Re: El Rico Habano Torpedo Maduro (REVISED)
UPDATE..........
I've smoked a few of these and I detected a familiar profile hidden beneath the power...........something I'd had before and couldn't put my finger on it. It was driving me crazy. Then it downed on me.........these have a VERY similar flavor (IMHO) as the Henry Clay Broadleaf line. If you liked the Henry Clay Broadleafs and like a little more UUUUMMMMPPPHHH!!, then you'll love the El Rico Habano Maduro Torpedo. To me, the flavor profile was identical except more power. Overall, very good cigar. ![]()
