Great Surprise------ REO by Rocky Patel Review

I just had to write a review of the REO after smoking my first one. I got a box of these a few weeks ago off Cbid simply because they were cheap and was a little worried because many here have not had the most favorable experience with this cigar. I was very pleasantly surprised by this excellent cigar especially at such a low price.
Construction was great and burn was perfect the whole way through with a very firm ash. I would call the draw (punch cut) a little on the loose side but the cigar burned very slow making for a surprisingly long lasting smoke. The flavor was incredibly smooth although I can definitely see some people calling it lacking. Nothing really jumps out although I picked up some cocoa and coffee from time to time throughout- or at least thats what I thought the flavor was. I just really enjoyed the smooth flavors coming from this cigar and definitely recommend it as a lighter smoke. Also I really like the band which has this sort of old school look to it. The colors remind me of the 50's or 60's and give it a real classic nice look. I ended up paying just over a dollar each for these and I would probably pay 5 for one for as good as this one was. Definite props to Rocky Patel for putting together such a good smoke for such a low price.

I've only had one but just received another. Both from generous BOTLs. I had no idea they were cheapies, it's a fine smoke and for the money you paid, a no brainer!

Flavor reminded me a bit of Juan Lopez Epicure no2 or a Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte fwiw

I've been meaning to try one. He made them with United Tobacco, and I love their 601 line. That's the EO in the REO name...

Nice review. I got a couple of bundles from cbid two weeks ago and they are decent cigars for the price.

Good review, tuneman - I've been meaning to pick one of these up since I'm a RP whore but the B&Ms around here don't carry them and I don't feel like buying a bundle on a whim. I thought it was interesting that you said the flavor was kind of flat cause I've found most RPs to be chock full of flavor. Live and learn.

Thanks for the review. I love Rocky Patels but I have yet to try a REO. I will have to look for some on CBID.

Re: Great Surprise------ REO by Rocky Patel

I probably came off wrong saying it was lacking flavor, it just wasn't the most flavorful cigar in the world but I would say it had more flavor than most of the stogies I have smoked (mostly CAO). Also I got kinda lucky I think getting a box for 25 bucks or so. I think these usually retail for 50 or 60 bucks/box. Anyhoo, I'm glad you guys liked the review. I had to add my as REO gets such a bad wrap sometimes.

Thanks for the review. I have had a few of the Robustos and thought they were well made and tasty. An excellent value on Cbid.

Re: Great Surprise------ REO by Rocky Patel

Thanks for the review. I too really enjoy the REO. I think when comparing all of the offerings of cigars; we forget that sometimes a tasty & cheap cigar can be just as rewarding as an ultra-premium. I have good stock of these in the humi... they just can't be beat for the price.

Nice review, no surprise here as we reviewed these on the show back in May and found them to be decent smokes, the REO as well.

Re: Great Surprise------ REO by Rocky Patel

I was surprised when I found out they were made by Rocky Patel because, well, they didn't taste bad (unlike every Rocky Patel I've smoked).

The Vibe I didn't like at all, but I'd smoke the Reo again.
