Padilla Hybrid - Robusto Review

Pre-smoke

Scent of Wrapper: A bit like a bail of hay.

Scent at Foot: chicken coop-y

Appearance: all in all a nice looking cigar. no blotches on wrapper, no stems noticeable at foot. feels nice and heavy.

Wrapper: beautiful wrapper. only one large noticeable vein. didn't detract from appearance in my opinion. color is a lighter brown, but not quite cream colored

Feel:Seems to be very well constructed. its firm, no hard spots, and it gives just a little bit when pressed

Tongue:Has a nice "tang" to it, not unpleasant, not too tingly

Flavor on Draw: this is hard for me to pinpoint, but maybe leathery?

Smoke

Taste: At first, it tasted just like the wrapper smelled, a bit grassy / hayish with a bit of wood. Later a distinct black pepper came into the forefront and didn't ever go away. It mellowed out a bit and I noticed a bit of a citrusy "tang" to it, which complimented the pepper nicely for some reason.

Flavor Changes: about every inch or so i noticed some new flavors, hay / grass at first, pepper second, pepper with citrus, finally mostly citrus (but not fruity if that makes sense)

Strength: fairly strong cigar, but not overpowering / make you want to wretch strong

Feeling: not sure what this category means, but i make my head a wee bit swimmy towards the middle

Scent of Smoke: i was outside, so i didn't get a big effect of this, but it wasn't unpleasant. the smoke was dense, and i could detect a bit of a peppery smell

Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: nothing notable until about the 2/3rds mark where the smoke got pretty hot, although it was just warm to the touch

Drawaw was just like i like it, I'd call it deliberate, not too loose, but it's not like getting a strawberry stuck in your straw while drinking a milkshake

Finish: i'd say it had a fairly long finish. a bit of a spicy finish. lasted for about 8 hours after i smoked it.

Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience:
a. The cap was a little small for being triple capped. I wish they would have brought it further down the cigar body. Made it difficult to cut.
b. The band is a bit large, but its not too gawdy, and I liked it. Just had to remove it earlier than normal.
c. The ash was very nice. Held on for about 2.5" at first, than fell off in 1" increments after that.
d. The smoke was very dense as well. Could easily blow smoke rings.

Final Rating: 8.5

I am smoking one for the first time as I type this and they are pretty good. He's right though, the cap is way too small.

Re: Padilla Hybrid - Robusto

I got a box for 40 bucks off the devil site. They are not a bad smoke at 2 bucks. Very mild and nothing to write home about for the first half of the cigar, but it picks up alot of flavor after the second half and doesn't get hot.

A top quality "everyday" or "yardgar", also a good addition for your moochador!

Re: Padilla Hybrid - Robusto

I'm a Padilla fan, but I wasn't crazy about this one.

It tasted burned or scorched rather than "toasty" like I like.

Very good review Eran. Have tried several of these and the jury is still out. Don't love or hate it, guess where you put it is about right.

I got a five pack and really enjoyed them. I then purchases a box with a free 5 pack. After smokeing about ten from the box I started to get tired of them. I still have about 15 leftover in the humi. They have been in there about a year now. I still cant get back into them.

Re: Padilla Hybrid - Robusto

I had one of these Friday night. I thought it was a pretty good smoke especially since I hadn't let them rest for more than a day since getting them in the mail.
Pretty mild, good flavor. I was drinking a Sam Adams with this cigar and I noticed that after taking a puff then taking a drink I was getting some berry flavors from the beer. I had been drinking the same beer before smoking and didn't notice this flavor in it before. Something about the combination must have caused that.
Anyway, I loved the amount of smoke that came off the cigar. I was half puffing at the end to keep it from getting hot and I was still pulling huge amounts of smoke.
I'll give it a
