Padron 2000 -- "Mocobird Edition" Review

Padron 2000 -- Mocobird Edition

It was a little past 7 p.m.. A Gran Marnier infused Padron Margarita sat before me and a lovely blonde sat to my right, sipping a Vox martini with a twist. She was busy trying to explain why she had applied a Repeated Measures Multi-Variate Analysis of Variance to the day's data and my eyes were glazing over. It was then that I realized it might be a good time to spark up the little natural-wrappered, 5-year-old Padron 2000 Mocobird had sent me while I awaited the end of her dissertation...and the rack of lamb I had just ordered.

My initial impression as a I lit this little cigar was that the draw was very easy -- (perhaps a little too easy for my tastes) and certainly easier than understanding anything the blonde was saying. Thick smoke wafted about as I took my first puffs --overwhelmingly thick, perhaps, but not so much as to prevent the blonde from parenthetically explaining why a Linear Regression would not have been appropriate for her analysis. As I gazed at her, doing my best impression of an inquisitive college student with my acutely furrowed brow, I noted to myself what a wonderfully sweet and nutty taste this cigar had. Sweet, spicy and voluptuous -- like the blonde, only less confusing .

I smiled as the discussion turned to the difficulties of video conferrencing with ADD -afflicted Brazilian doctors. My "Mocobird edition" Padron was halfway gone and still smoking as it had from the start. I decided that it lacked a bit of the depth of a 64 Anniversario, but it burned just as perfectly and had a level of overall strength which, comparatively speaking, the more "exclusive" Padrons usually lack. In summary, it was a truly a wonderful little cigar that suggested, given my previous experiences with other smokes in the Padron line, that some age is precisely what these cigars need. Well, that, and a blonde.

Magno:
did you happen to mention to the blonde that you were NOT a pre-embargo, frenetic gay stripper? I'm sure she could have done a multideviant analysis to ascertain the veracity of your claim. It might have gotten her to stfu too.

Anyway, still have mine.

How was the lamb?

She knows all about my stripper ways, and likes to tell me that my lifestyle was what drove her to marry my perverted little ass.

Lamb good, demi-glace watery

smoke your cigar, dammit!

Re: Padron 2000 -- "Mocobird Edition"

Hey that was pretty cool to be able to read a review on one of my Padron's. I'm glad you liked it. I totally agree with your discription "Thick smoke wafted about as I took my first puffs --overwhelmingly thick, perhaps" Myself I have always liked an easy drawing, thick smoke kind of cigar. Nothing worse for me then to fight a cigar all the way thru. I really enjoy taking a pre-light drag off of these as they have almost a fruity taste to them. I hope the rest of you who have gotten one of these will post reviews too. Between the Pass with No Name and a few other gorilla's that I have sent them to there should be about a dozen or so of you out there. Bad or good it would be interesting to hear a few different reviews on these aged Padron's.
Thanks Magno for the review!

Re: Padron 2000 -- "Mocobird Edition"

I'm assuming you smoked a few of these before laying them down? What were they like 5 years ago? Were they stronger? Weaker?

I'd really like to see a board on CS that's dedicated to reviews of well-aged smokes.

Re: Padron 2000 -- "Mocobird Edition"

Nice Review on the cigar, I especially like the format.

About the blonde though:

Does she light up easily?
Does she burn easily?
How is her structure: foot, bottom and top?
Does she smell like leather with notes of cedar? (hope not)
Most important how does she finish?

Would you recommend everyone get a blond like this?

Actually I didn't smoke any of them before laying them down. These boxes were put down still in the shrink wrap without ever being opened. I have boxes dating back to 1999 that are unopened and still have the shrink wrap on them. Now as opposed to fresh sticks, I will say that with time they do mellow out a lot. Where they still have that pepper and spice taste to them, they just don't have that bite.

I've got one of these in the box pass....an "Executive" as it was labeled. Moco, is this a Padron 2000 or is it a 3k,4k,5k 6k or what? (I know, Im dumb.....forgive me...)

I still have mine, and was looking forward to burning it soon.....maybe St. Patty's day....! I don't know if I can top that review above, though!! Nice...!

I have a couple 2000s - I will take your advice and let them relax in the humi for some time before enjoying them - thanks for the heads up.

Re: Padron 2000 -- "Mocobird Edition"

I had never really been a fan of the "lesser" Padrons (with the exception of the new 6000 series). But then, I had never had one that had been sitting in a Humi for a few years. This smoke made me a fan.

It reminded me alot of the Rockky Patel Sungrown I just reviewed

Soooo Uniputt took one of the the big boys. What you have is a Padron Executive, maduro with anywhere from 4-5 years on it. It's basicilly a churchill size cigar, 7 1/2 x 50. I'm not sure how old it is as the date was written on the cello wrap when layed down but when it was opened and the cello ripped off the date wasn't written on the box. I have not smoked one of those in a long time. I only have 10 left in that box.
I look forward to a review and then I'll break one out and smoke it

Re: Padron 2000 -- "Mocobird Edition"

Yeah, she's a good one: nice wrapper, lights easily (especially after a few martinis) fairly even burn. A nice body with occasional notes of chatter and vapidity, but with a little age.....

With repeated measures experiments unless you have independent experimental units for each and every data point, thats pretty obvious, no? Why was she wasting your time pointing out the obvious?
