Several Ratings From a Lazy Noob

I smoked a bunch this holiday week, and instead of posting multiple reviews, I am playing the lazy noob card and posting them all in one.

I am stealing a rating scale from someone I saw a couple weeks back, sorry for not giving credit where it is due, but I cannot find the post for the life of me. Note that since I only built my coolidor 2 months ago, none of the cigars I smoke have age on them from my end. I gave each of these cigars listed below at least 2 tries, just on the off chance that I got a dud:

Sticks that I won't smoke again, even though I still have some in my humi:
La Floridita
JR Monty Alternatives
JR Cohiba Alternatives
Ghurka X-Fuerte Toro
Edge by Rocky Patel Corojo Toro
Perdomo 2 Milenario 'Mistakes' Cameroon

Sticks that are decent, but that I won't buy again:
El Major Espresso Torpedo
Legend Series Peping Garcia
Legend Series Perdomo
Serie '55' by Victor Sinclair Toro (any label)
Vintage by Rocky Patel 1990 Torpedo
Ghurka Grand Age Perfecto
Aston VSG Torpedo
Oliva Serie 'O' Perfecto

Sticks that I would buy again:
OneOff Campagna Pyramid
Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Consul
Pailla Hybrid Robusto
Padron 1926 Torpedo

Sticks that I will actively seek out and buy again:
Legend Series Graycliff
5 Vegas Series 'A' (any size)
Famous Nic 3000

I would like to hear feedback, both positive and negative, on my ratings. I know full well my noob tastes are less refined than some of the other gorillas here, so if I missed the boat on a few of these, please let me know. dan

Re: Several Ratings From a Lazy Noob

Wow, if you smoked 2 of all these in the last week I would say you were very busy!

Maybe they weren't ALL from the last week, but about 75% of them were. I enjoyed this week!

Looks like you like the full strength stuff so I would try some Tatuajes ( Brown Label ) ,Pepin Blue Label and Padilla 1932 Signatures.Everyone's taste is unique so in the last analysis:" smoke what you like and like what you smoke". You're off to a good start! Jerry

Nice work. You sure burned a lot of brave soldiers. If you like full strength, give the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel a try. My new favorite!

Re: Several Ratings From a Lazy Noob

Well, as for the "never smoke again."

I had a RP Edge Torpedo while I was in Hilton Head about a month back. I thouroughly enjoyed it so maybe you got 2 duds?

But as for the next section down... That Oliva you tried. Haven't had one, but I have smoked a Serie G and I will honestly say it is one of my favorite cigars... for even under 3.00.

Just my thoughts.

Try an edge maduro, I think they're pretty similar to the 5 Vegas A series, go for the missile.

Sticks that I won't smoke again, even though I still have some in my humi:
La Floridita --Natty or maddie? Maddies are better but need aging
JR Monty Alternatives
JR Cohiba Alternatives
Ghurka X-Fuerte Toro
Edge by Rocky Patel Corojo Toro--Try the Edge Maduro, much better
Perdomo 2 Milenario 'Mistakes' Cameroon

Sticks that are decent, but that I won't buy again:
El Major Espresso Torpedo--These also need a long nap
Legend Series Peping Garcia
Legend Series Perdomo
Serie '55' by Victor Sinclair Toro (any label)--You ain't missin' anything if you never smoke another VS cigar again...IMO of course
Vintage by Rocky Patel 1990 Torpedo--I'm with ya on these
Ghurka Grand Age Perfecto
Aston VSG Torpedo--I'm with ya-nice smoke but not at that price
Oliva Serie 'O' Perfecto

Sticks that I would buy again:
OneOff Campagna Pyramid
Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Consul
Pailla Hybrid Robusto
Padron 1926 Torpedo

Sticks that I will actively seek out and buy again:
Legend Series Graycliff
5 Vegas Series 'A' (any size)--Try one of these at 6 months!
Famous Nic 3000--Best bundled cigar ever. The longer they sit, the better they git.

Man, your tastes are pretty similar to mine!

P.S. You smoked all those in the past week? Can you still feel your tongue?

I have 3 more of the RP edge in my humi (out of a 5er). I'll give it one more shot, but it tasted very chemical to me. Like a badly done flavored cigar. Tasted like soap and air freshener.

Don't get me wrong about the Oliva Serie 'O', I enjoyed them, but not enough to put into a rotation. I'll have to pick up a few of the Serie 'G'.
Thanks!!

Whoa! I am floored. Either I got a bad batch of RP Edge, or got a really good batch of 5 Vegas A. Because these smokes tasted nothing alike. The 5 Vegas A consistently had a very smooth chocolate peppery taste, while the Edge... well Ive already gone down that road. Maybe I'm missing something here.

I had fun!! I did about 3 smokes a day (which is alot for me, I'm usually 3 smokes a week). Not all of those I smoked this week. Most I just got around to smoking again just to confirm my initial impression. But I tell you, doing a cigar binge really helped me narrow down my taste.
