Costa Rica cigars - suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I am going to Costa Rica in less than a month and was thinking of picking some cigars up while i am there. That is if there are any good cigars that come out of there. I am still new to the cigar world, so I am looking for some recommendations. From what I have tried, I like something with a mild taste, nothing too strong.

If you are able to recommend some brands, I can to some further research.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Costa Rica cigars - suggestions?

I picked up a 5-pack sampler from this outfit when I was in Costa Rica in August 2006. This was before I started down the slippery slope. It was actually this 5 pack and one other Punch Cigar that started me on the path I'm on now. What I remember from these cigars is that they're mild-medium, good tobacco flavor. The characteristic I really enjoyed from these is they were very soothing and calming.

This is the actual sampler I picked up after walking into a Cigar Shop close to the National Theater in San Jose.

Outside of San Jose, I don't think there are too many places to locate cigars.

Here's an article Dr. Stogie Fresh wrote regarding Tabacos de la Cordillera which I recommended.

There's a hard to find LCDH in San Jose, http://habanoscr.net/ has the address. It's about two blocks away and back from the big Mall in the east of San Jose, I can't remember the name. A cab driver should be able to get you there.

My dad told me they were very expensive when he was down there a couple of months ago. I thought the prices were set to MSRP. I guess not.

I've enjoyed these as well. I've only had the Puriscal Gold line and they're a mild to medium stick.

Thanks everyone, I will try to pick something up while I'm down there! Once I smoke some I will let you know what I think. Thanks again.

Prices are typically MSRP but local and government taxes come into play many times.
