Flor De Gonzalez Gold extra corona Review
Bought these on a whim because they are made in Miami and have pretty good ratings (mid to high 80s) from cigar snob magazines. I am smoking this one fresh outta the box.
Size: "extra corona", looks about like a toro Retail price: $70-$80/box of 25 Wrapper: Ecuador Binder: Indonesia Filler: D.R., Nicaragua Nice triple cap with an absolutely perfect cut, I used a cheapo guillotine cutter and the cap popped right off and flew straight into the trash can (man, I love it when that happens). Well rolled with a somewhat veiny medium-brown wrapper, a little darker in appearance than most Ecuador-CT wrappers I've seen. Prefect draw, medium-loose. First 1/3 Flavor: Predominantly earth and spice. Not complex but very nice flavor, a mild sweetness on the draw and the earthy spice flavors on the exhale or "snork". Not much of a bite in the nostrils but very pleasant flavor/aroma when French inhaled. Gaining body and depth of flavor toward the middle. Second 1/3 I should say "second wind", as this baby really kicks up the flavor a little before the halfway point. Earth and spice still dominate, with a very nice tartness on the snork. Burn is perfect. Ash is light gray and fairly strong. Final 1/3 OH YEAH. This stick is going strong. Still earth and spice but more intense flavor, this cigar was like going mild to medium to full flavor all in one stick, but the dominant flavors staying the same. The tartness when French inhaled is also more intense. The finish gained some complexity, a toasty kind of aftertaste and an odd but very tasty flavor on the snork. Final thoughts I gotta say, I really enjoyed this cigar. Lately I've been getting into cigars made in the US, and since most Pepins are a little outta my budget, the Flor De Gonzalez Gold will definitely have a spot in my humidor. In fact, as soon as I'm done writing this review I'm gonna buy another box to hibernate for a while and see what happens to them. ![]() Thanks for reading! |
