Camacho SLR maduro (robusto) Review

First time smoking any Camacho...definitely won't be the last. It had a beautiful silky wrapper with a long vein running down the side. Pre-light draw was perfect, not loose at all and not tight. First few puffs had nice potent smoke that was peppery with nice sweet maduro undertones. The pepper went away after 1/3 or so and the remainder was more leathery. The sweetness was definitely there but not as sweet as some maduros, was more of a hint of sweetness. Lots of nice smoke. I would say it was probably more on the full side. I've only had a few cigar buzzes (The Edge) and this one delivered a nice buzz. It wasn't in the same strength as The Edge maduro but it was a stronger smoke. My only qualm was the burn. It had some canoeing issues. Nothing terrible but it never was straight. I had to adjust two or three times with my torch. Overall this was a very nice smoke. Not very complex but the flavors did change a bit. It was a very satisfying smoke and I'll be buying some more.

Good review! I am a big of the SLR line. Most of the Camachos have quite a kick, that corojo is quite powerful. I agree that they are not as "sweet" as other maddys. If you really want a powerful camacho, try the tripple maddie, just eat a big meal first!

Re: Camacho SLR maduro (robusto)

I pulled out a Camacho SLR Toro that's been resting since October 2006 (1-1/2 years) this afternoon when I returned from the office.
What a great smoke! Once you get past the initial pepper burst, about 1/2" into it, you are rewarded with a deep, dark, earthy espresso complimented by cedar & a touch of sweetness. Not a whole lot of change in its flavor after the first 2" or so, but a wonderfully full & relaxing smoke. I sat back on my deck (low 60's today), listened to a Wilson Pickett/Otis Redding mix of mine & just enjoyed the day for a good 2-1/4 hours before putting down the 1" stub.

Great smoke and kinda sneaky strong. Very smooth and flavorful so you don't think it's that strong, but when you try and stand up, whoa.

I got a sampler of Camacho's from CI a while back when I was first getting into cigars and I have enjoyed all of the ones I've smoked. Flavorful but not bitter or harsh and they have all had a good burn.

Re: Camacho SLR maduro (robusto)

I think I got the same sampler. I liked the SLR maduro the best out of the whole lot, but that might have been because it was the only one that didn't put me right on butt! I smoked my last SLR maduro last night, and it had definitely benefited from a few months nap time in the humi. No harshness, excellent burn, solid ash, a nice roast coffee taste throughout, and a good finish. Maybe a little one-dimensional, but it's a pretty short smoke.
