AVO Maduro Robusto Review
I got a dud, so I'm hesitant to even write a review.
However, this is the last of my AVO robustos, so I felt I had to... Immediately after lighting, I noticed that the draw was tighter than the usual. Took a few draws and got some of the same flavor that the AVO maduro #2 had. Soon afterwards the uneveness started. One whole side of the cigar was like a racehorse, trying to beat the rest to the end. Along with this, it didn't seem to be burning hot enough, and the smoke was sparse and lacking in flavor. This continued for about an inch, and then I noticed an actual hole in the ash on the "fast side". Underneath the wrapper, the cigar must have been extremely loose or even empty at that spot. I stuck with it, and eventually the burn evened a bit. For a brief couple of minutes, everything seemed fine - the smoke finally filled out and the flavor came back. But then back to problems. Every draw was a bit different, and each time I ashed, the ash flaked and fell apart. I have no doubt that this one cigar was a mistake. I would smoke another and expect it to be better. But just to be safe, my next AVO maduro will probably be a #2 instead of a robusto. |

Re: AVO Maduro Robusto
Tried my first AVO tonight, the maduro robusto. I too found it to have quite a tight draw and at times be lacking for smoke. This was disappointing because about an inch into the cigar the flavor suddenly got very rich and it was shaping up to be an excellent smoke. That lasted maybe an inch and a half, and then back to the tight draw and limited smoke.
I liked the flavor of the cigar a lot in the middle. I will probably follow mmblz's lead and try the #2 that he recommends.
