kind sad...

so i have long hoped to try one of the nub cigars i've read so much about here, and other places.... i was lucky enough to score a connecticut 454(i thats the one) in a pif recently.

let it set in the humi for about a week..

finally decided to light it up tonight because.. well i was just too excited to finally have one! I was like a little kid!

there was a minor spot where the wrapper was BARELY coming off, but didnt seem to affect anything.

smell and everything seemed fine, although the cigar seemed a little weak when squeezed lightly.

i immediately noticed when lighting it that it seemed to light far too quickly. I used a xikar executive and know that i didnt just hold the lighter too close. i actually quickly pulled the lighter away much quicker, but this guy still seemed to light up way to quick.

from the first puff through the first half inch the smoke was very hot, without much flavor. I was hoping that as the ash grew, the smoke would cool, but it did not. after about 3/4" ash the smoke actually seemed to get hotter, all but burning my toungue. it almost seemed like it was rolled TOO loose, causing the hot burning.

sadly I actually gave up on this cigar 3/4 of the way through it and just sat it down and went on to do other things, the first time i've quit on a cigar for something like this in years.

it was stored at 70% humidity and a V cutter was used.

while i fully intend on giving nubs another shot due to all the great things i've heard, but if another like this one comes across, i may very sadly have to removie nubs from my wish list, and move it over to my 'not again' list.

sorry to post a negative review, hopefully after i get my hands on another i'll be able to come back and happily post a more positive one! just wanted to share for others out there, and maybe see if i did anything wrong?

Lol,,,don't be sorry, man. I have had every Nub that is out there because I thought the same thing about giving these a try. My first Nub was like what you said and everyone after,,,,same thing. Then I go and read everyone else loving this cigar so I think it's just me. While we all have different tastes about cigars it's nice to know that I'm not the only one that didn't think this cigar is all that.

Sorry to hear that. I love the Cameroon and the Habano. Not a Conneticut fan at all, by any manufacturer. Give another wrapper a try and maybe it'll be better.

I really wish this cigar was a hit for me,,,perfect size and all. I like a cigar that is complex and flavorful with different tastes and the Nub pretty much to me has one distinct flavor profile. Maybe Sam will do a maduro one with some complexity and I will jump all over it.

I agree. I didn't care much for the Nub Connecticut, but enjoy the Cameroon. I haven't had the Habano yet.

I can't wait to try the Maduro.

I just ordered a sampler of these, 3 of each plus a "Carlito's Nubber". Looking forward to trying them. At least since they're popular, if I don't like them I can probably work a trade.

IMO the conn. burns too fast. just seems to be a byproduct of the type of tobacco. also too light for me. I enjoy the Habano wrapper. but recently I found the DL660 as being the right size and strength that Nub could never give me.

I am sorry to hear that some of you have had a bad experience with the NUB. I found that if you do not work that type cigar so hard you will not feel the burn. You really have to be patient with that size ring gauge cigar. Even though it is a stubby it should still take you about 40 minutes or more to smoke it to the NUB!!!!!!!!

If you're looking for complexity you will never find it in a nub. The whole idea behind it is to not be complex. It's supposed to maintain a constant and consistent flavor throughout the cigar. I personally love the nubs but I can see why the lack of complexity would bore some people. I have found that the nub is less enjoyable when I'm sitting out by myself really contemplating the cigar I'm smoking.
