Exclamation

i just smoked my first V tonight (double toro ?) and the construction on it was flawless. I smoked it rite out the shop tho. But i would be more than quite angry if that happened, considering the price ! thats crazy . Wonder if the retailer would take them back..but it appears that you ordered them UPS. so that would maybe put more of a damper in the situation. Sorry about your lose .

I sent Oliva an email over 2 weeks ago and have never heard back from them. I took a dozen or so Vs on my trip to Alaska and 4-5 of them had wrapper problems. Not one of the other cigars I took had any problems, and I had about 200 with me.

I'm pretty pissed about shit-canning that much money on cigars that didn't deliver. I'm wanting to take Olivas the next time we all get together, next month, to show my buddies that they really do live up to the hype, but I'm not sure I'd be right.
joey

that sucks. I have a box that I haven't touch yet...now I'm worried

You took 200 cigars on your trip to Alaska?

So you were gone what - 2 months?

Joey, I would contact BengalMan on here and maybe he can get you in touch with our Area Rep who seemed like a nice guy at the Kenny Event.

I have had more than my fair share of wrapper issues with the V's and it really stinks that I might give up on the line that I like the flavor of and what not because I have such a hit or miss time with the wrappers, but I'm right there with you.

This same thing happened with the Padilla Miami 8&11 I had so many construction issues (not all wrapper) that I just gave up on them. 99% of the cigars I smoke are perfect, but it really cheeses me off when a nice smoke is ruined by construction issues.

I never heard a word from Oliva and at this point, after 3 weeks, I'm pretty upset that there's such a lack of customer service with that company. I still have a box to 1 1/2 boxes in my cooler, so I still have a stash. I love the V series, but there are others I can substitute. I knew 99% of people love the V, too. That's why I chose them for the outting.

As for the 200 taken to Alaska...they were gone in 5 days All we had to do was smoke, drink, eat, repeat. Cigars in Alaska are ridiculously expensive. An RP Edge is $11

Typically, heat will expand a moist cigar slightly...The first problem with the V wrapper (same/similar to Tatuaje and Pepin wrappers) is that it is not super pliable making it easy to crack or damage.

Second, I have noticed a lot of the recent "hyped" cigars being rushed to meet demand, and they are showing up "wet" and the wrapper/binder/filler combo hasn't had time to acclimate. I am hearing the same story lately with all these new production cigars - cracking wrappers, yadda yadda yadda.

Don't have proof what other manufacturers do, so what I mention next is only based on my experiences:

Third, when applying the wrapper, some cigar rollers use veggie glue along the entire edge of the leaf so that it is flush on top of itself as it is rolled. If this is done, the wrapper cannot expand with the heat as the filler expands, and thus cracks. Now, glue does not have to be applied for the wrapper to stick to itself, but I have noticed when I do shows that if I bunch and press my cigars (slightly wet) and try to wrap them after only 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes of pressing, the wrapper unravels easily and doesn't stick to itself...what would be the natural fix? Extra veggie glue (I don't do this, but have experimented in the past). I have found that if I leave the bunches in the press overnight (in wooded molds which extract some moisture as opposed to plastic mold which leave the cigars wet) and the bunches dry out a tad, then all is well. Most of the new manufactures are using plastic molds, so their bunches are wet, and for some reason, wrappers don't apply well in those conditions, hence the extra glue.

Sorry if I got redundant throughout, but I hope I gave some clarity on the subject. Sorry for your cracking loss friend, but blame the plastic molds and the rushed production, IMHO.

Good luck getting in touch with Oliva and let us know how it goes!

I don't know about the other stuff, but I agree about the rushing to market thing. the V's were sooooo hard to find, and now there are plenty.

PM Sent.

The Serie V packaging has changed a few times (slightly) to better protect the cigars in transit. Foam, cello flaps, and now full celloed cigars, were intro'd to absorb some of the abuse these poor cigars endure.
There are many factors that contribute to cigars splitting (well covered above in previous posts), but the most annoying ones are the ones that you didnt do yourself. They happened before you got the goods. I am sorry for that. Too dry, too wet, too hot, too, cold, UPS/FedEx, etc., anyone of these at anytime can cause what I consider stress fractures on a paper thin leaf of tobacco. No cigars are immune, but it should be everyones priority to make corrections when a deficiency is observed.
I truly appreciate the feedback, but I'm sorry that you didnt get to enjoy the cigars.

The V has always been consistent for me. . . NEVER had a problem.
Was it hot outside where you were smoking?

I had a problem with some G's, contacted the company through their website (the mail goes right to Jose) and he replaced my cigars.

That sucks...at least you can get V's. Richmond is barren when it comes to V's

No splitting; however, I got some gross metallic flavor and some nasty cotton mouth. I can not believe that the series V made it to the top 25.
