Padilla Obsidian (problems)?
Hey everyone. I've smoked two padilla obsidian cigars, both obtained from samplers from ci, and they had some good elements to them but also one that made them almost impossible to smoke. The two i had were ridiculously plugged up. I ran a paper clip all the way through both of them as well and i couldn't get them to draw comfortably. The flavors were great but it wasn't an enjoyable experience with that draw problem. My humi was in the 65-70% range for both and i even let the second on sit out for a little while to possibly not be so wet when i started to smoke it.
My question would be has anyone had this cigar before and come across this problem, and what would your suggestion be to alleviate a problem such as this.

I think some of the CI samplers are damaged smokes. My buddy got a CAO in a sampler and it pulled for crap, and CAO pressure tests all there smokes to pull to a certain psi before they band them.

These are usually really wet when you get them from CI. The construction has been an issue with these.

hmm, well i've never really had a problem with ci. that's my main source for orders as well, but i have heard you get some damaged smokes from there so im kind of torn on that issue.
as far as the construction goes, that being a problem concerns me considering that this isn't exactly a "cheap" cigar. Its 5-6$ at CI though i don't know what they go for in a B&M. (The local shops dont carry much for selection so i generally dont go there.) My point being i've had cigars that a 1-2$ that are wonderful and dont have a problem like this, and if i'm going to pay 5$ (or any amount of money for that matter) for a cigar, i want to be able to smoke it.

In all actuality, Cbid had them on special auction for 20 for $29, so they are available at the 1-2 range...

The obsidians do much better when you dry box em for a day before smoking em. They tend to smoke better when they are a bit drier.

My experience has been similar to others on this thread. Most purchases I get from CI tend to be 'wet' and I typically put them away for at least 2 weeks before smoking. Deuce's dry-box tip also works well for many cigars.

I bought a fiver of them off CBid, sent one to a friend who loved it, and then waited a couple months. I pulled one out a couple days before a herf, and dryboxed it. It was mighty tasty, but the cigar was tight and kept going out on me.
I've seen lots of comments from experienced cigar handlers that the Obsidian has some frequent construction problems, mainly the "too tight to smoke" variety.
