Germain – King Charles
This is the blend that confirmed me to be the latakia whore that you see before you.
Although since I have tried other blends which I have enjoyed better such as Frog Morton and 965, and of course penzance, this blend is still in my regular rotation and I see myself continuing to purchase it in the future.
The 50g tin promises a blend of latakia, Oriental and Virginia.
Upon opening the tin I noticed the musty, smoky smell of the latakia.
The tobacco was very consistent throughout the bowl. It was rich, medium flavour, and mild to medium in strength. It was just the right moisture out of the tin and was ready to be smoked. It was a very well behaved tobacco; it took one match to light and stayed lit for the whole bowl.
The latakia taste was upfront straight up front. It reminded me of the latakia used for Penzance. It was nicely spiced by the Oriental which was hanging out in the background. I wondered where the Virginia was until I noticed it in the sweet after taste. The Virginias used in this blend are very subtle. Although it is a tasty, well behaved tobacco, there are blends heavy on latakia which I’ve enjoyed better. I somewhat recommend this blend and will give it 6.5/10.
