G.L. Pease Montgomery
Can't believe this one isn't in here.
Nice understated Va. blend. This is a couple of years old, nice color variations to the Va.'s with some dark ribbons (Burley, I guess) spaced through the mix. Nice moisture content, packed well. Lights up nice, got a very heavy twang, almost like a perique hit, on the initial light that went away almost as fast as it appeared. Nice sweet lemony clean Va taste at half bowl. has a nice body to it, a little more umph than some straight Va.'s. Sweetness picking up as I smoke it down a little more. Getting a little more of the creaminess as I get close to wrapping this up. Overall a very pleasant Va. lots of subtle complex flavors ghosting around the palate. ~Bill

Re: G.L. Pease Montgomery
I've had a few (well, more than a few) bowls of this VA so here comes my review. I got a "young" tin (just canned) so the taste is probably vastly different from the previous review here.
This is a pretty good blend. I find it creamy and more subtle in flavor than, say, SG FVF. Like all GLP blends that I've tried, this one needs minimal (if any) drying out and lights like a champ - and burns all the way down to nothing but fine white ash. I find it burns quite quickly compared to SG FVF but then again, thats a flake. Have to really slow down and let Monty burn cool to get the full experience. Not sweet in the way one would expect from a VA, but subtle creamy sweetness with a good texture. Smoking this one gives a feeling of "satisfaction" throughout the smoke. Often I have walked away from the pipe after 10/15 minutes just to savor the feeling - returning to the pipe after an hour and again, resuming for a while before walking away. Works good in small bowl pipes, or small bowl loads, for quick(er) pipe breaks. I find the flavor consistent throughout the bowl, DGT'ing does make an improvement in texture and range of flavor, but it is an immensely satisfying smoke even for small bowls/loads. Definitely one to hoard/cellar, I can only dream about how much more it can improve with aging. With that thought, off we go to smokingpipes to load up that brown truck!
