Danish Luxury
I picked this tobacco up from a local tobacconist in Gatlinburg, Tn this Christmas while vacationing with my parents. The only reason I picked it up was cause the piper there said it was his favorite, so this started a punt-kick of aromatics for me. Let me just say that, although this tobacco is good in its own, that aromatic punt was/is short-lived.
This tobacco gives itself quite an appeal to it. The aroma of it is like that of a fresh picked fig, and the tobacco itself being flattened out (or rolled into rather) into a square sheet makes this a must try for anyone. Packing this type of tobacco is a little awkward, but I rolled it up onto itself, and then folded over, it fit perfectly into my Calabrest.
I'm not quite sure how to describe the taste. It definitely has some spice to it that does produce a significant tongue bite if smoked fast, or slight bite if smoked slower. Nevertheless, the spiciness of the tobacco makes you want to keep puffing away. It doesn't have that fig taste to it like one would imagine from the scent of the tobacco; however, it does have a slight "fruitiness" to it. It definitely has a long finish to it, as the taste lingers for a good while.
It does burn fairly easily, but like others, it does leave some of the "gunk" in the bottom of the pipe, but that could be relative to not letting it completely dry out before packing.
Overall, relative to the other aromatics I've tried, which aren't that many, I believe this is a fairly decent blend to try. Of course, one would have to go out of their way to get it, as it is a local blend, but if ever in Gatlinburg, I'd say pick up a couple ounces.
