Burley Light
Since I've started the pipe, I've found some of the local house blends to be pretty spectacular. I picked up some burley light today at the Blacksburg Pipe and Tobacco shop in Blacksburg, Va. Took a two hour drive to get there though, but it was worth it. Mostly picked up cigars, but after the raving review from a fellow piper at the store, I had to try this.
He said it was best as a morning smoke, as in 5 or 6 in the morning! I don't think I'll be up that early any time soon, but I believe he is on to something. This was a very sweet smoke, to say the least; but, like the other burley-heavy blends I've tried, it also has a blandness to it; although, I have come to enjoy that blandness flavor as its own.
Again, it was really sweet, to almost sugary throughout. In that regard, I thought it would be a good after-dinner smoke as a dessert. Especially since it does have some tongue bit to it, but I was also smoking it a little fast trying to keep it lit. I smoked it on the wet side, so it wasn't staying lit for that reason, but I didn't give it time to dry out, because I was anxious to give it a try.
In my opinion, this ribbon cut is a good one for someone who wants to try burley, or even for that seasoned smoker who really enjoys burley blends, as it is a good mild smoke. I'll have to let it dry out a little more and give it another chance on the burning issue. Thus, I look forward to enjoying this blend. I would also like to give a shout out to the guy at the B&M who recommended this, and Ed who rang up my credit card! Thanks guys!
