C&D Virginia Gentleman
So, when I was high on percocet about a week ago (following my leg surgery), I went on a tobacco blind purchasing binge. Blind purchasing isn't new for me as I'm a relative newb to the pipe, and there are so many blends to try out there! However, buying 8 oz. of a blind blend is not normal! I blame that on my pharmaceutical induced haze. When I popped the 8 oz tin today, I suffered from a little buyer's remorse because I could've hated this stuff, but the good news is I absolutely loved this stuff!
The blend consists of Virginia, Turkish, and Burley tobac in near perfect proportions. This stuff also comes ready to smoke straight out of the can. True to what I've come to know from C&D, this stuff was dry and it packed/lit so easily that it was almost silly. As a side, Exhausted Rooster is the only C&D blend that I've had any moisture issues with. Anyhow, this blend comes ribbon cut with some small chunks that I rubbed out with ease. One good charring lite followed by the "game time" lite sent me puffing away. I've read some reviews that said this blend started with muted flavors but brightened as the blend burned down. I experienced the opposite. My first bowl started out tangy-sweet and had me thinking that the Turkish and Burley ingredients were more theoretical than actual. However, as the bowl burned down, the Turkish leaf showed its face and the Burley added a cooling dimension that works very well here. Like a fine cigar, this blend displayed depth and complexity all the way to the last puff. This blend provided me the lowest maintenance bowl that I've ever had. In the hour that it took me to smoke this bowl (it did burn faster than average), I only re-lit twice; that has to be a record for me. I also smoked this stuff until there was literally nothing left in the bowl, which is also rare for me. In case you haven't noticed, I love this blend! ![]() Last edited by pistol; 11-25-2008 at 07:10 PM.. |

Re: C&D Virginia Gentleman
nice review, pete.
i can picture you hobbling around on one foot, all hopped up on pain killers, slobbering on your pipe (that don't sound right). so the orientals are just enough to mix with the VAs... can you detect the burley at all? if i were to smoke this, would i turn into a goofy left-coaster, like EvanS? |
